David Peterson holds Nationals to two runs in win
David Peterson pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball for the victory as the Mets topped the Nationals 6-3 on Tuesday.
Advice: Peterson has been known to walk a few, but the Nationals decided to be particularly aggressive at the plate tonight, allowing the left-hander to get 20 outs on just 81 pitches. All five hits he gave up were singles, and the second run he allowed was the product of a Joey Gallo grounder hitting first base and bouncing a mile into the air. Pete Alonso would have made the play otherwise, and Peterson probably would have gotten through seven having surrendered just one run. Peterson has a 3.09 ERA in two starts since coming off the IL. We wouldn’t totally trust him as a mixed-league starter, but he’s not a bad play with the Marlins on the docket next week.
