• Sonny Gray defeats Cubs to improve to 7-2
Sonny Gray picked up his seventh victory of the season on Sunday night, allowing just one hit and a pair of walks over five shutout innings against the Cubs.

Advice: The 34-year-old right-hander punched out eight batters on the evening. He got 14 whiffs on just 74 pitches on the night — eight of those on his sweeper alone — while registering an elite CSW of 35 percent. Gray has been as outstanding as ever in his first season with the Cardinals, posting a 7-2 record, 2.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a 67/12 K/BB ratio across 52 innings of work through his first nine starts. He’ll attempt to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Phillies in Philadelphia on Saturday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:20 pm
  • Suffers second defeat
Yamamoto (5-2) suffered the loss Sunday against the Reds, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Yamamoto was done in by a lack of run support combined with a tough-luck four-run third inning. Yamamoto recorded two outs in the third but an infield single by Jake Fraley extended the inning while loading the bases and was followed by consecutive two-run singles by Jonathan India and Nick Martini. The outing marked Yamamoto's first defeat since the first game of the season and came on the heels of an impressive five-game stretch where Yamamoto went 4-0 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 31 strikeouts across 32 innings. His next start is scheduled to take place next weekend when the Dodgers welcome the division-rival Rockies to Chavez Ravine. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:30 pm
  • Jose Altuve has two hits, SB in win over A’s
Jose Altuve went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in a win over the A’s on Sunday.

Advice: Not many people are talking about Altuve, but he’s having yet another solid year with a .296/.353/.468 triple slash to go along with nine home runs, 20 RBI, and eight steals. He’ll always provide solid run totals while hitting at the top of the Astros’ lineup and is one of the most reliable players in fantasy baseball. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:02 pm
  • Craig Kimbrel locks down 12th save in win
Craig Kimbrel pitched a scoreless ninth to slam the door on a 4-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: The save was Kimbrel’s 12th on the season and his third this week alone. The 35-year-old scared fantasy managers (and Orioles fans) in early May when he went through a rough patch that had him temporarily removed from the closer’s role. However, this is who Kimbrel is at this point. The veteran now has seven straight scoreless appearances and a 3.15 ERA on the season. He remains a solid closer option in fantasy leagues on one of the best teams in baseball. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:53 pm
  • Locks down 12th save
Kimbrel struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the White Sox.

Advice: Kimbrel hasn't allowed a walk or a hit over his last 4.2 innings, and he's pitched 6.2 consecutive scoreless innings. He's earned a save in each of his last four outings, retaking the closer role after a shaky stretch in late April and early May saw him take a short stint in lower-leverage assignments. Kimbrel is 12-for-15 in save chances this season while posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB over 20 innings. He's also collected four holds and a 4-1 record, but it looks like most of his appearances will be in the ninth inning going forward. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:52 pm
  • Targeting return Tuesday
O'Neill (knee), who is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers, is expected to remain on the bench for Monday's series opener in Baltimore before returning to the starting nine for Tuesday's game versus the Orioles, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Advice: The Red Sox don't view O'Neill's sore right knee as a major concern and think he'll need to miss just two starts due to the issue before returning to the starting nine as either a designated hitter or corner outfielder. Garrett Cooper will enter the lineup in O'Neill's stead Sunday, occupying the DH spot and batting third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:06 am

  • Absence continues as expected
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Friday that Riley likely won't return to action until Monday versus Washington, so it's no surprise the third baseman will sit for the 13th straight game due to an intercostal strain. Zack Short will receive another start at the hot corner in the series finale at Pittsburgh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:44 am

  • Austin Riley (side) remains out of lineup Sunday
Austin Riley (side) is not in the lineup for Sunday’s game against the Pirates.

Advice: That makes 13 straight games that Riley will miss due to his side soreness. The infielder will take a seat again with Zack Short drawing another start at the hot corner. Riley’s next chance to start will come Monday against the Nationals. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:34 am

  • Tyler O’Neill (knee) remains out Sunday
Tyler O’Neill (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Brewers.

Advice: O’Neill left Saturday’s contest with the Brewers with soreness in his right knee. The 28-year-old will miss at least one full game with Garrett Cooper hitting third as the starting designated hitter. O’Neill should be considered day-to-day for now. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:59 am
