    • Blake Snell tabbed for rehab start on Sunday
      Blake Snell (adductor) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

      Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw will first throw a bullpen session on Thursday, then if all goes well he’ll be cleared to take the mound in that rehab start. Snell has been shelved since April 24 due to a left adductor strain. It remains to be seen if he’ll require any additional rehab starts after Sunday’s tune-up, or if he’ll be ready to return to the Giants’ rotation if things go well there. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:04 pm

      Rodriguez went 1-for-3 with a single, two walks, a stolen base and a run in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

      Advice: Rodriguez deployed the small-ball strategy to great effectiveness Tuesday, pushing his OBP for the season back over the .300 mark (.309) in the process. The steal was Rodriguez's eighth of the season in 10 attempts; however, he's still sitting on just a single home run and five extra-base hits overall in 152 plate appearances after averaging one XBH every 10.1 trips to the batter's box a season ago. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought.       Rutschman went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Tuesday's 3-0 loss to the Nationals.

      Advice: Rutschman had one of the Orioles' three hits in Tuesday's loss. He's gone 8-for-25 (.320) with four extra-base hits and four RBI over six games in May. Rutschman's steal was his first of the year -- speed is the one tool that doesn't show up much in his game. He's still putting together another excellent season with a .322/.359/.469 slash line, five home runs, 22 RBI and 20 runs scored over 34 contests, even with a walk rate at a career-low 5.3 percent.     • Sitting out with sore knee
      Cubs manager Craig Counsell said Wednesday that Swanson is absent from the lineup versus the Padres due to a right knee issue, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

      Advice: Counsell added that Swanson tweaked the knee on a slide during an April 25 contest against the Astros. He's considered day-to-day. The Cubs have a scheduled off day Thursday, so Swanson will look to return to action Friday in Pittsburgh.       Verlander (1-1) took the loss Tuesday, coughing up seven runs on eight hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks over five innings as the Astros were routed 10-3 by the Yankees. He struck out two.

      Advice: The 41-year-old right-hander looked his age, managing only six swinging strikes among his 97 pitches as he got tagged for his most earned runs in a start since July 2, 2017 against Cleveland. Verlander has served up five homers in four starts and 22.1 innings, which isn't unusual for him, but he's beginning to have trouble keeping traffic off the basepaths ahead of the long balls -- he's walked at least three batters in three straight starts.       Paredes went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

      Advice: The 25-year-old continues to rake. Paredes has seven multi-hit performances in the last 12 games, a stretch in which he's batting .362 (17-for-47) with a 6:4 BB:K. The surge has boosted his slash line on the season to .299/.384/.520 with eight homers and 19 RBI, and with top prospect Junior Caminero tearing it up himself at Triple-A Durham (.340/.392/.681 over his last 12 games), Paredes is doing his best to ensure he won't lose his spot in the starting lineup once the Rays call up the 20-year-old phenom.     • Logs two hits in loss
      Duran went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Atlanta.

      Advice: Duran's line Tuesday was similar to his previous game Sunday, when he logged a double and triple in a win over the Twins, only he didn't score against Atlanta. That's partially due to Boston's woeful 1-for-14 performance with runners in scoring position (13 LOB). Duran's done a good job of not letting any slumps linger -- the bane of his first two seasons in the majors -- and is batting .267/.339/.420 over 168 plate appearances.     • Justin Verlander hit hard in loss to Yankees
      Justin Verlander allowed seven runs on eight hits over five innings in a loss to the Yankees on Tuesday.

      Advice: Verlander also walked three, struck out just two, and gave up three home runs on the day. The 41-year-old simply didn’t have it on Tuesday, allowing a three-run homer to light-hitting Alex Verdugo in the first inning. He allowed a run in four of his five innings on the day and posted just an 11 percent whiff rate and 20 percent CSW. His ERA is now 4.43 on the season and he has 16 strikeouts and 10 walks in 22 1/3 innings on the season.     • Rutschman extends hit streak to five in loss
      Adley Rutschman went 1-for-4 in the Orioles’ 3-0 loss to the Nationals on Tuesday.

      Advice: Offense was hard to come by for the Orioles in this one, as Rutschman’s hit was one of just three the Birds recorded on the evening. The real story of the night was the Nationals pitching, as starter Trevor Williams struck out eight batters over five innings while the bullpen notched four more K’s.
