      Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a solo homer on Thursday, powering the Astros to a 4-3 victory over the Yankees.

      Advice: Alvarez kicked off the scoring in the opening frame by taking Yankees starter Marcus Stroman deep for his eighth round-tripper of the season. It was the first time he’s left the yard since a two-homer explosion back on April 27, snapping a nine-game homerless drought.       Ronel Blanco allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Blanco generated 13 swinging strikes, and finished with five strikeouts, but also battled control issues throghout this one, handing out four free passes as well. He managed to limit New York’s formidable lineup to just a two-run homer by Anthony Volpe into the middle innings, which was enough to hang on for his fourth win of the year.     • Guardians transfer Gavin Williams to 60-day IL
      Guardians transferred RHP Gavin Williams to the 60-day injured list.

      Advice: Nothing has changed with Williams from a return timetable standpoint as the procedural move merely clears up a spot on Cleveland’s 40-man roster for newly-acquired reliever Darren McCaughan. The 24-year-old righty has been on the shelf since spring training due to right elbow inflammation, but was able to resume a throwing program last week following a brief setback.       Advice: The move clears a spot on the team's 40-man roster for the addition of Darren McCaughan. The left-hander may have his assignment moved to a higher-level affiliate after his rehab outing Sunday, though it is possible the Giants opt to return him to their rotation after just one start.       Blake Snell (adductor) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab start at Single-A San Jose on Sunday.

      Advice: The 31-year-old southpaw will first throw a bullpen session on Thursday, then if all goes well he’ll be cleared to take the mound in that rehab start. Snell has been shelved since April 24 due to a left adductor strain. Both Rodriguez's barrel (6.4 percent) and hard-hit (30.9 percent) rates have taken notable dips from their respective 11.9 percent and 38.87 percent figures in 2023, partly explaining the power drought.
