• One more rehab start needed
Freeland (elbow) allowed one run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts during a start at Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. He'll likely require one more rehab start at Albuquerque before joining the Rockies, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.

Advice: Freeland made his second rehab appearance Thursday, but it was his first at the Triple-A level. The lone run attributed to Freeland came on a solo homer. Still the left-hander is expected to appear in one more rehab game before returning to the Rockies toward the end of June. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago

  • Kyle Tucker (shin) won’t be ready on Saturday
Astros’ manager Joe Espada told reporters on Friday that Kyle Tucker (shin) will not be ready to be activated from the injured list on Saturday.

Advice: While he noted that Tucker is “moving in the right direction” he also admitted that Tucker is not doing baseball activities yet. While a return at some point over the weekend hasn’t been ruled out yet, it seems unlikely if he’s not doing any baseball activities yet. A more likely scenario has the 27-year-old superstar outfielder returning to action next week. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago

  • Idle against RHP
McKinstry is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Houston.

Advice: McKinstry will give way to the righty-hitting Ryan Kreidler at shortstop Friday despite right-hander Hunter Brown on the mound for the Astros. It'll be Kreidler's third start since Javier Baez (back) got injured, while McKinstry has only had two starts during that stretch. Rotowire.com 45 minutes ago

  • Kyle Gibson goes seven in shutout of Cubs
Kyle Gibson blanked the Cubs for seven innings in the Cardinals’ 3-0 shutout Friday.

Advice: Gibson gave up a long fly to Cody Bellinger that probably would have been a homer on another day, but not this one. Apart from that, he was very effective in allowing two hits, walking one and striking out six. He almost missed out on a win anyway; Patrick Wisdom absolutely crushed a ball in the eighth that by all rights should have been a go-ahead, two-run homer. Instead, the wind crushed it right back, resulting in a 354-foot flyout. It’s the first time in 14 starts this season in which Gibson has gone without allowing a run. He’s 5-2 with a 3.44 ERA. • Ryan Helsley picks up 23rd save with hitless ninth
Ryan Helsley notched his 23rd save Friday with a hitless ninth against the Cubs.

Advice: Helsley walked a pair of batters with two outs, drawing a visit from the pitching coach, but he then struck out Nico Hoerner to end the game. Since it was his third appearance in four days, he might be down tomorrow, potentially giving Andrew Kittredge a save chance. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
  • Kyle Hendricks goes 4 1/3 scoreless in relief
Kyle Hendricks pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings after replacing an injured Jordan Wicks in the second Friday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Hendricks struck out just one, but he walked none and allowed only one hard-hit ball. One imagines Wicks will join Ben Brown on the IL tomorrow, likely resulting in Hendricks’ return to the rotation. That doesn’t make him a fantasy option, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he does a better job of holding his own this time around. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago
  • Pedro Pagés hits first major league home run
Pedro Pagés hit his first big-league homer Friday against the Cubs.

Advice: In the top of the eighth, Pagés hit a ball to left at 102.5 mph with a 32-degree launch angle and got it just into the basket over Ian Happ’s outstretched glove. 10 minutes later, Patrick Wisdom hit a ball to the same area at 111.0 mph with a 33-degree launch angle and somehow came up just short. Pagés’ homer came in his 39th career plate appearance. He’s batting .125 while splitting time with Iván Herrera behind the plate for the Cardinals. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

  • To Triple-A IL with elbow injury
Holliday was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Norfolk on Friday with right elbow inflammation, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear at this point how long the top prospect might be sidelined. While he's still drawing plenty of walks in June, Holliday has scuffled a bit overall this month, slashing .212/.422/.394. On the whole, he's hitting .252/.418/.429 with five homers in 40 games for Norfolk since being demoted. A return to the big leagues had not seemed imminent for Holliday, but certainly the injury will rule out the possibility for a while. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago

  • Stymies Chicago
Gibson (5-2) earned the win Friday over the Cubs, allowing just two hits and a walk over seven scoreless innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Gibson was excellent Friday, turning in a season-high seven innings in his first scoreless outing of the year. The 36-year-old Gibson has been solid of late, working to a 2.19 ERA over his last five starts. Overall, his ERA is down to 3.44 on the campaign with a 1.20 WHIP and 73:31 K:BB across 83.2 innings. Gibson's currently scheduled to face the Marlins on the road in his next start. Rotowire.com 47 minutes ago
