• Wilyer Abreu plates lone run in loss to Twins
Wilyer Abreu went 2-for-4 and drove in the Red Sox’ lone run in Saturday afternoon’s loss to the Twins.

Advice: The Red Sox got something going early in this one, as Tyler O’Neill smacked a two-out double off of Pablo López in the opening inning. Abreu followed with a run-scoring single that gave his squad an early 1-0 advantage. That would be their only run in the ballgame. Abreu also singled in the game, collecting two of his team’s eight total hits. The 24-year-old outfielder has been terrific so far at the dish, slashing .307/.380/.489 with a pair of homers, 13 RBI and five stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:52 pm
  • Available off bench Saturday
Young (back) is not starting in Saturday's game against the Blue Jays but is available to pinch hit or run, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

Advice: Young was removed in the fifth inning of Friday's 9-3 win over the Blue Jays due to back spasms, and he was replaced by Jesse Winker. Alex Call will start in center field Saturday and hit eighth against Blue Jays right-hander Kevin Gausman. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:10 am

  • Young (back) out Saturday vs. Blue Jays
Jacob Young (back) is out of the lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays.

Advice: Young left Friday’s game with back spasms, and he won’t start Saturday’s affair. Nationals manager Dave Martinez did tell reporters that Young is available off the bench as a pinch-hitter or pinch-runner, so he should be back in the lineup in the coming days. • Jacob Young pulled due to apparent injury Friday
Jacob Young was pulled from Friday’s showdown against the Blue Jays in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury.

Advice: No word yet on what happened to the 24-year-old speedster, but he was replaced by Jesse Winker when the Nationals took the field to start the fifth inning. Prior to exiting, Young had been 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored. Look for the team to provide an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Friday, 5:06 pm

  • Moves up to leadoff spot
Young will start in center field and bat leadoff in Friday's game versus the Blue Jays.

Advice: Young batted leadoff a few times last month, but this is the first time since April 19 that a player other than CJ Abrams has been at the top of the batting order for the Nationals. Abrams is hitting second Friday. The Nats are facing southpaw Yusei Kikuchi, and the right-handed hitting Young has a .313/.353/.375 slash line versus lefties this season. • Starts against lefty
Carter started in center field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday's 6-0 win over Washington.

Advice: Carter got the rare start against a left-hander and produced his second hit in 16 at-bats against a southpaw. Texas manager Bruce Bochy has shied away from using Carter in these situations but gave him a shot Thursday with Leody Taveras getting the night off. Rangers general manager Chris Young explained to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com that at this point in his MLB career, Carter has not faced the quality of stuff that major-league lefties possess, suggesting the team is bringing the 21-year-old along slowly in that regard. "I think [Bochy] is doing a very good job of giving him his fair share of at-bats against lefties knowing that there's only one way to develop, and that's to go through it," the GM said. Young also noted Carter's advanced aptitude and is confident he'll eventually succeed against all pitchers. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:33 am

  • Collects three hits Wednesday
Betts went 3-for-5 with two RBI against the Diamondbacks in Wednesday's 8-0 victory.

Advice: Betts hasn't homered over his past 17 games, but he continues to be productive, collecting seven multi-hit efforts over that stretch while slashing .406/.481/.536. The move to shortstop this season hasn't impacted the All-Star's offensive production, as Betts is leading MLB in hits (49) and OBP (.481) while tying for first in runs (29) and walks (26). Betts' 1.104 OPS also leads all major-leaguers. Rotowire.com Thursday, 10:33 am

  • Sitting against southpaw
Abreu is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: With southpaw Kyle Harrison on the bump for the Giants, the lefty-hitting Abreu will retreat to the bench for the series finale. The Red Sox will have Tyler O'Neill move from his usual spot in left field to replace Abreu in right. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:32 am
  • Swipes fifth bag
Abreu went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-2 win against the Giants.

Advice: Abreu stole a base in three straight games between April 15 and 18, but he hadn't notched any thefts over his subsequent 10 contests coming into Wednesday. The 24-year-old outfielder continues to cement his place in the starting lineup, as he's slashing .316/.395/.519 with two homers, 12 RBI, 14 runs and five thefts on the campaign. Abreu began the campaign as Boston's fourth outfielder, but has since emerged as the team's everyday right fielder and cleanup hitter. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 10:25 pm
