• Throws light bullpen session
McCullers (forearm) threw a light bullpen session Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: McCullers had previously done some throwing from the front slope of the mound, but this was his first time throwing from the top of the bump since he had surgery last June to repair the flexor tendon and remove a bone spur from his forearm. It's a big step, but McCullers is still at least a month away from a rehab assignment, with a return to the Astros hopefully by July if all goes well. Rotowire.com 8 minutes ago
  • Max Scherzer (thumb) currently in holding pattern
Max Scherzer (back, thumb) is currently in a holding pattern when it comes to his rehab process.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander was scratched from a rehab outing earlier in the week due to inflammation in his thumb ligament. While that issue hasn’t gotten any worse, it also hasn’t improved over the last couple of days, causing the Rangers to kind of put everything on hold. They’ll continue to take things day-to-day until he feels improvement and is ready to resume playing catch again. Obviously that means there’s no clear timetable for when he may take the mound for the Rangers. Rotoworld 12 minutes ago
  • Exits after foul tip off hand
O'Hoppe was removed from Saturday's game against the Guardians with a right hand contusion, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: O'Hoppe took a foul tip off his throwing hand in the bottom of the fourth inning. He initially remained in the game -- striking out in the top of the fifth -- before exiting prior to the bottom of the fifth. It's uncertain as to whether he'll need X-rays, but the Angels should offer more clarity on their catcher's status after the conclusion of Saturday's contest. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

  • Logan O’Hoppe exits game with hand injury Saturday
Logan O’Hoppe was removed from Saturday’s contest against the Guardians with a right hand injury.

Advice: O’Hoppe was clipped on the hand by a foul ball while behind the plate in the fourth inning on Saturday and appeared to be in quite a bit of pain. He’ll presumably head for X-rays to see if there’s any structural damage. Stay tuned. Rotoworld 18 minutes ago

  • Leaves game with hamstring injury
Kwan was lifted from Saturday's game against the Angels due to left hamstring tightness, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Kwan looked to tweak his hamstring while chasing down a flyball in the top of the third inning and was removed prior to the top of the fourth. It's not clear at this point whether he might require an MRI, but the Guardians figure to offer an update on his condition after the game. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

  • Steven Kwan leaves game with hamstring tightness
Steven Kwan was removed from Saturday’s game against the Angels due to tightness in his left hamstring.

Advice: Kwan suffered the injury while running down a ball in the outfield. The severity of the injury, as well as how much time the 26-year-old outfielder may stand to miss, remain unclear. The Guardians should provide another update on his status after the game concludes. Rotoworld 22 minutes ago

  • Doomed by rough first inning
Irvin (2-3) was saddled with a loss Saturday versus the Blue Jays, permitting four runs (zero earned) on five hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Irvin needed 32 pitches to get through the first inning, thanks in large part due to a pair of errors committed behind him. The silver lining is all four of the runs the Jays scored in the opening frame were unearned, so he watched his ERA on the season drop from 4.28 to 3.72. Irvin mostly settled in after that but still required a season-high 107 pitches to cover his five innings. The righty has walked just eight guys in seven starts this season, showing immensely improved control after he issued free passes at a 10.2 percent clip in 2023. His next start is lined up to come in Boston. Rotowire.com 30 minutes ago

  • Kevin Kiermaier hits first homer in win over Nats
Kevin Kiermaier went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer as the Blue Jays won 6-3 over the Nationals on Saturday.

Advice: After the Nationals scored two runs to cut into the Toronto lead in to bottom of the seventh, Kiermaier put two runs back on the board for the Blue Jays with a two-run homer off Derek Law. It was the first home run of the season for the 34-year-old defensive-first outfielder. Kiermaier is slashing .197/.246/.279 across 66 plate appearances. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Strong over 5.1 innings
Gausman (2-3) picked up the victory Saturday, tossing 5.1 shutout innings on three hits and two walks against the Nationals. He struck out eight.

Advice: The Nats made Gausman throw a season-high 112 pitches to get through his 5.1 frames, but the right-hander was able to keep them off the scoreboard. Gausman's eight strikeouts were his highest total this season, and he boasted a 48 percent whiff rate on his splitter. The righty's velocity remains down, but he's allowed just two earned runs over his last four starts and finally piled up some strikeouts in this one. Gausman is projected to face the Twins at home in his next outing. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago
