• Likely to join rotation
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said after Wednesday's game that Mercado would likely join the rotation if Spencer Turnbull (lat) needed to miss time, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Advice: Turnbull has since been placed on the 15-day injured list, so it would appear Mercado is set to join the Phillies' rotation next week. Mercado made one one-inning relief appearance earlier this week in his major-league debut, but he's been used mostly as a starter this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, collecting a 1.71 ERA and 44:23 K:BB over 47.1 frames covering 10 starts and four relief outings. The 25-year-old's first big-league start is tentatively lined up to come Tuesday in Chicago against the Cubs. Rotowire.com 5 minutes ago

  • Rejoins bullpen
The Phillies recalled Marte from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Advice: Marte held a 2.70 ERA and 12:5 K:BB over 13.1 frames with the Phillies earlier this season before missing time with a shoulder issue. He will operate in middle relief. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Finds work with Cleveland
Boyd (elbow) agreed to terms with the Guardians on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Advice: It's unclear how much more rehab work Boyd has to do after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, but the Guardians seem comfortable enough with his progress to bring him in on a major-league deal. The 33-year-old southpaw posted a 5.45 ERA and 1.32 WHIP across 71 innings over 15 starts with the Tigers before getting injured last season. Rotowire.com 17 minutes ago

  • Headed to IL with strained lat
The Phillies placed Turnbull (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right lat strain.

Advice: Turnbull had to depart Wednesday's start against the Tigers with right shoulder soreness. While the pitcher downplayed the injury after the game, subsequent testing revealed a lat strain. It's not yet clear how much time Turnbull might miss, but certainly it's the type of injury that could cost the right-hander several weeks. With Taijuan Walker (finger) also still out for a while, Michael Mercado could enter the Phillies' rotation. Rotowire.com 20 minutes ago

  • Remaining in rotation
Wesneski will remain in the Cubs' rotation following the injury to Javier Assad (forearm), Patrick Mooney of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Wesneski got a spot start Wednesday in San Francisco as the Cubs gave other members of their rotation some extra rest. However, with Assad landing on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Wesneski will stick in the rotation indefinitely. He's tentatively lined up for two starts next week at home against the Phillies and Angels. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
  • Out of Philadelphia lineup
Marsh is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins.

Advice: It's southpaw Trevor Rogers toeing the rubber for Miami, so the left-handed hitting Marsh will take a seat. Cristian Pache will be in center field and Kyle Schwarber will cover left. Rotowire.com 32 minutes ago

  • Out again versus lefty
Stott is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Marlins.

Advice: Stott was out of the lineup Tuesday against a lefty and will also begin this one on the bench as the Marlins send southpaw Trevor Rogers to the hill. He did pinch hit in Tuesday's contest, so perhaps another mid-game appearance is possible. Whit Merrifield is handling second base for the Phillies on Thursday. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

  • Bryson Stott gets a day off on Thursday
Bryson Stott is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup on Thursday.

Advice: Stott will get a routine day off on Thursday with left-handed Trevor Rogers on the mound. Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat sixth with Whit Merrifield starting at 2B. Trea Turner is also at DH with Kyle Schwarber moving to left field as David Dahl sits against a lefty. Rotoworld 37 minutes ago

  • Jorge Mateo starts third straight game at 2B
Jorge Mateo is starting at second base and hitting ninth for the Orioles on Thursday against the Rangers.

Advice: Mateo has now started three straight games and four of the last five. However, he’s hitting just .240/.282/.453 with five home runs, 12 steals, and a 23 percent strikeout rate. However, he’s hitting just .225 in June and Coby Mayo is on fire in Triple-A, so Mateo might need to go on a hot streak to keep getting starting opportunities. Rotoworld 43 minutes ago
