    • Undergoes MRI on calf
Fraley underwent and MRI on his right calf Thursday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Advice: It's not clear what the result of the exam revealed or if they're in yet, but Fraley will miss a second straight start Thursday after being a late scratch from Wednesday's lineup. Santiago Espinal is getting the call at designated hitter for Cincinnati. Rotowire.com 14 minutes ago

    • Spencer Turnbull out 6-8 weeks with lat strain
Spencer Turnbull will miss 6-8 weeks with a right lat strain.

Advice: It’s a significant loss for the Phillies, especially with Taijuan Walker (finger) also on the shelf due to injury. The 31-year-old righty suffered the injury on Wednesday during his return to Philadelphia’s starting rotation and will likely wind up sidelined until at least early-to-mid August. It’ll probably be Michael Mercado attempting to fill the void, unless the Phillies are able to work out a deal to bring in some additional depth. Rotoworld 15 minutes ago

    • Not in Thursday's lineup
Rocchio is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest in Kansas City.

Advice: The Guardians are opting for Gabriel Arias at shortstop in their series opener against the Royals. Rocchio has been one of the lightest-hitting regulars in baseball this season, slashing an anemic .211/.312/.299. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago
    • Remaining out Thursday
Candelario (hamstring) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis for the past week, and while the team still doesn't plan on placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, his injury will cause him to miss a second consecutive game. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base as a result, allowing Nick Martini to start in left field and bat fifth. Rotowire.com 18 minutes ago

    • Tigers option Keider Moreno back to Triple-A
Tigers optioned RHP Keider Moreno to Triple-A Toledo.

Advice: Moreno heads back to the minors after surrendering five runs over 4 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a spot start against the Phillies. The 23-year-old righty has struggled at the highest level, but he’s flashed an ability to miss bats with his slider in the big leagues. Rotoworld 20 minutes ago
    • Reds activate prospect Noelvi Marte for ’24 debut
Reds activated INF Noelvi Marte from the restricted list.

Advice: Marte returns to Cincinnati’s lineup for Thursday’s game against the Cardinals after serving an 80-game suspension following a positive test for a performance-enhancing substance. The 22-year-old infielder will get the majority of his starts at third base for the Reds moving forward after emerging as one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape last year before batting .316/.366/.456 with three homers and six steals over 35 contests in the majors. He struggled in a quick 12-game ramp up earlier this month with Triple-A Louisville, batting .151 (8-for-53) with just one extra-base hit, but some rust is to be expected on the heels of such a lengthy absence. It might take him a few weeks to get going, but he’s absolutely worthy of a speculative roster spot in all leagues based solely on his immense talent. Rotoworld 24 minutes ago

    • Back in majors
The Guardians recalled McCaughan from Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: McCaughan was dispatched back to Triple-A on Monday after appearing in one game for the Guardians. He'll now return to the majors to replace Xzavion Curry, who was optioned to Columbus in a corresponding move. McCaughan has allowed 10 earned runs in 6.2 MLB innings between Cleveland and Miami, and he'll almost certainly be limited to low-leverage opportunities during his stint in the bigs. • Reds option Livan Soto back to Triple-A
Reds optioned INF Livan Soto to Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: Soto heads back to the minors after a handful of contests with the Reds as a stopgap until top prospect Noelvi Marte was activated from the restricted list to make his season debut. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

    • Optioned to Triple-A
The Guardians optioned Curry to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Advice: Curry took the loss out of the bullpen for the Guardians on Wednesday versus the Orioles and finds himself back in the minors a day later. He'll be replaced by a fresh bullpen arm in Darren McCaughan. Rotowire.com 28 minutes ago
