      Advice: Soto plated the Yankees' first run with his solo shot in the fifth inning, though the Mets had already built a big lead by that time. The long ball was the first extra-base hit over the outfielder's past eight games, and he's batted an uncharacteristically poor .160 (4-for-25) during that stretch. Soto has continued to reach base consistently, however, due to his willingness to take a walk -- across the eight-game span, he's accumulated an 11:6 BB:K, and he leads the league with 65 total walks on the season.     • Could play rehab games this weekend
      Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Nootbaar (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

      Advice: Nootbaar hit in the batting cage Monday and then took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since suffering a strained left oblique in late May.       Ward went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run during Tuesday's 7-5 win over Oakland.

      Advice: Ward launched a homer for the second consecutive night, tagging Sean Newcomb for a solo shot in the seventh inning. He's now at a .385/.443/.563 slash line with seven home runs, 24 RBI, 48 runs scored and four steals over 51 contests, and it's safe to assume his speed will remain down given his history of hamstring issues.       Chas McCormick went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Tuesday’s win over the Rockies.

      Advice: McCormick’s two-RBI single in the first capped off a five-run inning for the Astros, who sent all nine batters to the plate against embattled starter Austin Gomber.       Lars Nootbaar (oblique) progressed to taking on-field batting practice on Tuesday.

      Advice: It was Nootbaar’s first time hitting on the field since landing on the injured list back in late May with a moderate oblique strain. The 26-year-old outfielder, who has been snake-bitten by injuries this season, told reporters afterwards that he’s close to heading out on a rehab assignment.       Ward went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Monday's 5-1 win over the Athletics.

      Advice: Ward gave the Angels all the offense they needed with his first-inning blast. This was his 13th homer of the season, but it's just his second over the last 24 contests. The outfielder may be coming back around at the plate, as he's hit safely in four straight games, but he's at a .241/.326/.431 slash line with 40 RBI, 37 runs scored and three stolen bases through 75 contests overall.       Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Nootbaar (oblique) took batting practice Monday and will do so again Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: If Nootbaar responds well to the consecutive days of BP, the Cardinals could clear the outfielder to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment later in the week. Though Nootbaar wouldn't seem to be a likely candidate to return from the 10-day injured list for any of the Cardinals' seven games this week, he shouldn't require a lengthy rehab assignment. Alec Burleson has been serving as the Cardinals' primary right fielder in Nootbaar's stead, but Burleson will likely settle back in at designated hitter once Nootbaar is activated.
