    • Shut down with groin strain
The Rockies placed Bird on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a right groin strain.

Advice: Bird sustained the injury in his most recent relief appearance in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Nationals and won't be eligible to return from the IL until July 8. The right-hander had recently returned from a month-long stay on the shelf due to elbow inflammation and made just three appearances out of the Colorado bullpen before being shut down again with a new injury. • Could be back sooner than expected
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Wednesday that Williams (back) could return from the 60-day injured list sooner than his initial mid-to-late-July recovery timeline, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Williams was scheduled for a bullpen session Wednesday, which would have marked his first time throwing off a mound since being shut down during spring training with multiple stress fractures in his back. He will need to throw off the bump multiple times and eventually go out on a rehab assignment before being activated. That said, while Williams still has multiple checkpoints to hit in his rehab program, he looks to be in a good spot with his recovery. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

    • Drew Thorpe’s start pushed from Thursday to Friday
The White Sox will go with a bullpen day Thursday and push Drew Thorpe’s start back to Friday.

Advice: It’s good news for those rostering Thorpe, as he’ll now face the Rockies instead of the Braves. The downside is that it means he probably will miss out on a road start in Miami next week. Jonathan Cannon and Garrett Crochet are set to follow Thorpe this weekend, so it appears Mike Clevinger will make another rehab start. Rotoworld 36 minutes ago

    • Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold confirmed Wednesday that Gasser (elbow) underwent a traditional Tommy John surgery Monday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: As expected, Gasser wasn't a candidate for an internal brace procedure, which would have shortened his timetable. A return for Gasser late in the 2025 season would still appear possible, but he likely won't be an integral part of the team's plans until 2026. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

    • Jake Bird (groin) goes back on IL for Rockies
Rockies placed RHP Jake Bird on the 15-day IL, retroactive to June 23, with a right groin strain.

Advice: No countermove was immediately announced. Bird had allowed two runs in 2 1/3 innings of relief work since returning from elbow inflammation on June 17. Rotoworld 42 minutes ago

    • Chris Roycroft joins Cardinals as 27th man
Chris Roycroft will serve as the Cardinals’ 27th man in Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Braves.

Advice: Roycroft has a 3.07 ERA in 12 relief appearances for the Cardinals this season. He’ll probably get into one of the two games today, especially with Matthew Liberatore due for a short start in Game 2. Rotoworld 45 minutes ago

    • Brewers DFA Joel Kuhnel after one day on roster
Brewers designated RHP Joel Kuhnel for assignment.

Advice: Kuhnel, who has a 6.30 ERA in 77 appearances since debuting with the Reds in 2019, didn’t pitch in his one day on Milwaukee’s roster. Rotoworld 53 minutes ago

    • Brewers shift Joe Ross (back) to 60-day IL
Brewers transferred RHP Joe Ross from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list with a back strain.

Advice: Ross was aiming for a quick return after going on the IL on May 21, but a setback suffered a couple of weeks ago means he’s now out through late July. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

    • Pushed to 60-day injured list
The Brewers transferred Ross (back) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Dallas Keuchel, who will start Wednesday's game against the Rangers. Ross' timetable remains unchanged as a result of the move, as he had already been ruled out through the All-Star break. He had been set to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, so the righty seems to be trending in a positive direction. Rotowire.com 56 minutes ago
