• Michael Wacha throws simulated game
Michael Wacha, on the IL with a fractured foot, threw a three-inning simulated game Thursday.

Advice: Wacha had no problems today, and if he’s still feeling good tomorrow, the Royals will likely pencil him in for a rehab start. He’ll probably need just one outing in the minors before rejoining the Royals. Rotoworld Today, 9:38 am

  • Steven Matz (back) slated for third rehab start
Steven Matz, who is returning from a lower back strain, will throw 50 pitches for Double-A Springfield on Sunday.

Advice: It’ll be Matz’s third rehab start. He also pitched for Springfield on Tuesday, allowing five unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings. That one probably sounds worse than it was; he gave up three hits, walked one and struck out three. Rotoworld Today, 9:33 am

  • Kodai Senga (shoulder) throws bullpen session
Kodai Senga said his bullpen session Wednesday went well. He’s expected to have two more before facing hitters.

Advice: The Mets don’t have a timetable for Senga at this point, but from the sound of things, he could begin a rehab assignment at the end of the month if he continues to progress. Senga has yet to pitch this season because of a shoulder injury. Rotoworld Today, 9:21 am

  • Dean Kremer (triceps) throws side session
Dean Kremer threw a side session Thursday and will likely soon begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: The Orioles were considering bringing Kremer back from a triceps strain without a rehab assignment, but it appears he’ll make a minor league start this weekend and then probably rejoin the Orioles next weekend. That opens the door for Cade Povich to perhaps get a start next week against the Yankees. Rotoworld Today, 9:08 am

  • Tapped for start Sunday
Waldrep will make his next start Sunday against the Rays in Atlanta, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Atlanta had held off from listing Waldrep among its probable pitchers following his MLB debut this past weekend against the Nationals, but the fact that the rookie wasn't immediately demoted following his first start always suggested that he was sticking around in the big-league rotation. Waldrep was touched up for seven runs while striking out only one over 3.2 innings against the Nationals, but he had cruised through the first three frames before unraveling in the fourth. Though Waldrep displayed plenty of upside during stops with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett earlier this season, he'll still carry plenty of risk as a fantasy option Sunday, even in a favorable matchup at home. • Bounces back
Kopech struck out two and walked one without allowing a hit in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday against the Mariners.

Advice: Kopech imploded to allow three earned runs and blow a lead in an appearance Monday, but he managed to bounce back in this outing. He entered the game with the score tied at 1-1 and turned in just his third scoreless effort in his last five appearances. Kopech remains the White Sox's primary closer, though his last save came on May 15. Rotowire.com Today, 8:43 am

  • Royals send Daniel Lynch IV back to Triple-A
Royals optioned LHP Daniel Lynch IV to Triple-A Omaha.

Advice: Lynch was tagged for six runs in 6 2/3 innings by the Yankees last night, but since he was working behind an opener, he wasn’t saddled with the loss (that went to Dan Altavilla). He also gave up eight runs to the Mariners on Friday, so the demotion seems warranted. The Royals won’t need a fifth starter again until June 22 and they might have Kris Bubic or Michael Wacha ready to come off the IL then. Rotoworld Today, 7:48 am
  • Sent down to Triple-A
The Royals optioned Lynch to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday.

Advice: The move comes one day after Lynch allowed six runs over 6.2 innings in bulk relief in a loss to the Yankees. Kansas City's decision to send Lynch back to the minors could indicate that the club expects Michael Wacha (foot) to be ready to return from the 15-day injured list next week, but no announcement on a replacement for Lynch in the rotation has been made just yet. • Opening Thursday's contest
Manager Dave Roberts said Grove will serve as the Dodgers' opening pitcher for Thursday's game against the Rangers, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Grove made 18 starts with the Dodgers between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, but he's worked almost exclusively as a reliever in 2024. During his lone other start this season back on April 28 against the Blue Jays, Grove covered just two innings and gave up three earned runs before turning the game over to the bullpen. He'll be working Thursday on just one day of rest and is unlikely to cover more than 1-to-3 innings before he exits the contest. Rotowire.com Today, 7:31 am
