      Musgrove (elbow) lightly threw weighted plyometric balls Thursday, per MLB.com.

      Advice: A previous report indicated Musgrove could play catch mid-week, but it turns out the extent of his throwing was the work he did with the plyo balls. The workout was, however, a step in his progression toward playing catch, which could happen before the end of the month.     • Early exit in no-decision
      Pepiot came away with a no-decision in Friday's 10-3 win over the Pirates, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.

      Advice: Despite the impressive offensive support, Pepiot wasn't efficient enough to qualify for his fifth win of the year and got the hook after 74 pitches (41 strikes). The right-hander tied his season high with the four free passes, while the three strikeouts tied his season low. Through four starts in June, he's stumbled to a 6.30 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB through 20 innings, and Friday's outing was his first this month in which he didn't serve up a homer.     • Clean inning for save
      Miller struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 6-5 win over the Twins.

      Advice: Shea Langeliers put the Athletics ahead in the eighth inning, and Miller was able to slam the door in the ninth. He hasn't been charged with a run over his last 4.2 innings while posting a 5:2 K:BB in that span.     • Mason Miller needs just seven pitches for save
      Mason Miller struck out one in a clean ninth to get a save against the Twins on Friday.

      Advice: Miller “only” picked up one strikeout, but he also needed just seven pitches to get through the outing with five of those landing for strikes. The 25-year-old has locked down 14 saves for the A’s in 2024, and his ERA is a very healthy 2.08.     • Ryan Pepiot unravels in fourth inning
      Ryan Pepiot allowed two earned runs in 3 1/3 on Friday against the Pirates. He walked four and struck out three.

      Advice: Pepiot started strong with three punch outs in his first three innings and held a big lead. He looked to be in complete control until a lead-off walk to Rowdy Tellez in the bottom of the fourth and wouldn’t make it through the inning. His line could’ve been worse as he left the game with the bases loaded and one out, but Colin Poche got out of the jam with a double-play ball. It seemed he didn’t have a feel for his slider in this one as he threw just three.     • Another rehab start on tap
      Cabrera (shoulder) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk with four strikeouts across three innings for Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday. He's scheduled to pitch again Tuesday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.

      Advice: Although Cabrera took the loss Wednesday, he turned in a quality showing in his first rehab appearance. The 26-year-old is expected to throw four innings or roughly 60 pitches Tuesday as Cabrera gets stretched out and ready to rejoin the big-league rotation.     • Tarik Skubal gives up two homers in loss to Braves
      Tarik Skubal surrendered five runs — four earned — in four innings Wednesday in a loss to the Braves.

      Advice: Skubal struck out seven and gave up only five hard-hit balls. Unfortunately, two of those hard-hit balls went 426 and 407 feet, as Skubal allowed two homers for just the second time this season. It’s the fourth time this season that he’s allowed exactly four earned runs. He’s given up a total of nine earned runs in his other 11 outings. Rotoworld Wednesday, 12:31 pm

      Skubal (8-3) took the loss Wednesday against Atlanta, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Most of the damage against Skubal came via the long ball Wednesday -- he gave up a two-run homer to Sean Murphy in the third inning before Ramon Laureano tacked on a solo shot in the fourth. The 27-year-old Skubal has now lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season -- he's given up eight earned runs over 10.1 innings in that span. The left-hander still sports a solid 2.50 ERA on the year with a 0.97 WHIP and 105:18 K:BB across 90 innings. Skubal is lined up for another tough matchup next week at home versus the Phillies.       Cortes (4-5) picked up the win in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles, allowing five hits over six scoreless innings. He struck out six without walking a batter.

      Advice: The crafty lefty was at his baffling best, and the only runner Baltimore got past second base against Cortes came on an Austin Wells passed ball in the sixth inning. Cortes threw a season-high 105 pitches (64 strikes) in the outing, his first time in triple digits since April 20, while the quality start was his second straight and seventh of the campaign.
