    • Paul Skenes impresses in All-Star Game start
      Paul Skenes fired a scoreless inning during Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.

      Advice: Skenes lived up to the astronomical hype with an impressive frame during his Midsummer Classic debut. The hard-throwing 22-year-old phenom, who fired seven hitless innings with 11 strikeouts in his final outing prior to the All-Star break, broke out his signature splinker to generate a rare ugly swing from Juan Soto and touched triple digits on multiple occasions.     • Let down by defense in blown save
      Holmes (1-4) blew a save and was the pitcher of record in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Orioles, allowing three unearned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning.

      Advice: In a roller-coaster ninth inning, New York scored three runs in the top of the frame to take a 5-3 lead. Holmes entered to try to close things out in the bottom of the inning but couldn't get the job done, giving up three runs, the final two of which came on a Cedric Mullins walk-off double. Though he didn't pitch particularly well, it would be unfair to pin the blame entirely on Holmes for the dramatic defeat, as a two-out error by Anthony Volpe allowed a run to score and kept the frame alive for Mullins' double, which had an xBA of .150, per Statcast -- Alex Verdugo took a terrible route to the ball and pinned the blame on himself for the result after the game, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. It was nonetheless a poor end to the first half of the campaign for Holmes, who has blown two of his past four save chances while giving up five runs (two earned) across four frames during that span.       Aaron Judge will bat cleanup for the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

      Advice: It seems Bruce Bochy disagrees with Aaron Boone in using Judge as a No. 2 hitter. He has Judge batting behind Steven Kwan, Gunnar Henderson and Juan Soto on Tuesday, so unless someone gets on base, we’ll miss out on a Paul Skenes-Judge matchup.       Advice: Albies began his day with a double and later led off the fourth with a single before stealing second and coming around to score on a base hit from Matt Olson. Albies has notched a double in three straight games and now has four multi-hit efforts in July.       Santander went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a triple in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Yankees.

      Advice: Santander is 13-for-46 (.283) with five extra-base hits and three RBI over 12 contests in July. It was always reasonable to expect that he'd take a step back in the power department after slugging 13 homers in June.       Yates picked up the save Sunday against the Astros, allowing one run on a hit and a walk with no strikeouts across one inning.

      Advice: While Yates advanced to 16-for-16 in save opportunities this season, he snapped his streak of eight consecutive scoreless innings. The 37-year-old walked Jon Singleton and yielded a single to Jeremy Pena to start the ninth frame, with Singleton eventually coming around to score on a groundout by Joey Loperfido.       Advice: Adames has gone 9-for-21 (.429) with nine RBI over his last five games. The shortstop had his fingerprints all over this game, which saw him open the scoring with an RBI double in the first inning. He also wrapped up the offense with his eighth-inning homer.       Willy Adames went 4-for-4 with a home run, double, walk, two runs scored, and four RBI in a 9-3 win over the Nationals.

      Advice: This was a huge game for Adames who was never retired and on base five times as the Brewers avoided a sweep heading into the break. This mammoth game was a welcome sight as Adames had been hitting .214 over his last 30 games. His 67 RBI are fourth most in the National League. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:50 pm
