  • Spencer Bivens shines Sunday in first career start
    Spencer Bivens struck out three over five innings of one-run ball on Sunday in a win over the Dodgers.

    Advice: Bivens flummoxed Los Angeles’ star-studded lineup for four frames in his first career start, and also got plenty of run support from San Francisco’s lineup, which put up nine runs on 12 hits through four frames to open the contest. A one-out solo shot from Chris Taylor in the fifth inning represented the lone tally against him in this one. It was an impressive showing for the unheralded 30-year-old journeyman who holds a stellar 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 14/4 K/BB ratio across 14 innings (six appearances, one start). No guarantees yet, but Bivens is in line to face the Guardians on Saturday, and represents an increasingly intriguing streaming option for fantasy managers in deeper mixed leagues.   • Big Maple gets lit up Sunday in loss to Giants
    James Paxton was torched for nine runs on 12 hits over four innings on Sunday in a loss to the Giants.

    Advice: Paxton gave up a couple early runs before the metaphorical wheels came off completely in the fourth inning when he was obliterated for five runs on four hits, including a two-run homer by Matt Chapman, and one free pass. The dozen hits allowed were a career-high for Paxton, who struck out four and handed out a pair of walks as well. The 35-year-old southpaw had allowed just two runs combined across 16 innings of work over his previous three starts dating back to June 11. He’ll attempt to right the ship when he faces the Brewers on Saturday in his penultimate outing prior to the All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 3:34 pm
     
  • Exits with apparent leg injury
    Mize left Sunday's outing against the Angels in the bottom of the sixth inning with an apparent leg injury, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

    Advice: Mize was in the midst of one of his best starts of the season, striking out two while allowing five baserunners over 5.1 scoreless innings before "cramping up" and grabbing at the back of his left leg, according to McCosky. More information on Mize's status will likely come later Sunday or Monday, but if his departure ultimately does end up being the result of cramping, there's won't be much concern for his availability moving forward.   • Casey Mize leaves game in sixth with leg problem
    Casey Mize left Sunday’s game in the sixth inning with an apparent left leg injury.

    Advice: Mize grabbed at his hamstring a little bit after trying to chase down a foul popup. He is in line for his second win after leaving with a 7-0 lead and one out in the sixth against the Angels. Alex Faedo replaced him. Rotoworld Today, 2:53 pm

  • Helsley tosses scoreless ninth for 30th save
    Ryan Helsley pitched a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Reds on Sunday.

    Advice: Hensley’s save was his 30th and he recorded two strikeouts in the process. His ERA is 2.61 on the season. Helsley’s well on his way to a 40-save season and anything beyond that would just be a monster year for fantasy. Rotoworld Today, 1:57 pm
     
  • Greene allows one run in loss to Cardinals Sunday
    Hunter Greene allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.



    Advice: Greene gave up four hits, walked two and struck out six. It was certainly better than his last start where he allowed six runs, but the Cardinals worked up his pitch count and he was unable to complete even five innings. Greene has a 3.70 ERA and 4.29 xFIP on the season. The 24-year-old right-hander is set to face the Tigers at home next weekend.

  • Lynn tosses six scoreless, gets win against Reds
    Lance Lynn threw six shutout innings and got the win in the Cardinals’ 2-0 victory over the Reds on Sunday.



    Advice: Lynn gave up two hits, walked one and struck out six. He’s won consecutive starts for the first time this year. Lynn was excellent in shutting down the Reds and now has a 3.59 ERA on the season. The 37-year-old right-hander is set to face the Nationals on the road next weekend.

  • Patrick Corbin gets through six innings in loss
    Patrick Corbin allowed four earned runs across six frames on Sunday against the Rays. He struck out five and walked one in a losing effort.

    Advice: The Rays smacked Corbin around in this one and he was fortunate to give up just four runs. The Rays had 12 hard-hit balls, nine of which were hit harder than 100 MPH. He’s earned every bit of his 5.49 ERA this season. Rotoworld Today, 1:04 pm
     
  • Opening Sunday's game
    Bivins will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

    Advice: The right-hander has made five appearances since he received his first call-up to the majors in mid-June, and he'll make his first big-league start Sunday versus Los Angeles. Bivens last pitched Thursday versus the Cubs and covered one inning, and he's topped out at 49 pitches since joining the Giants. He should be able to provide some length but likely won't handle a full starter's workload. Slusser suggests that Landen Roupp -- whom the Giants called up from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday -- will likely work multiple innings in relief behind Bivens. Rotowire.com Today, 9:09 am
