• David Bednar silences Reds to notch 15th save
David Bednar tossed a perfect frame on Monday against the Reds to record his 15th save of the season.

Advice: Bednar was summoned to protect a three-run lead in the final frame and required just 11 pitches (eight strikes) to spin a flawless frame. It was a nice rebound effort for the 29-year-old stopper after giving up solo homers in each of his previous two appearances. He’s converted 15 of his 18 save opportunities on the year. • Carson Spiers hurls six frames in loss to Pirates
Carson Spiers surrendered four runs over six innings on Monday in a loss to the Pirates.

Advice: Spiers held his own in this one, but was simply out-dueled by Pirates sensation Paul Skenes, who limited Cincinnati’s lineup to just one run over six frames. The 26-year-old righty put together the longest outing of his career to date, which is impressive since he was seemingly on the ropes in the opening frame when Pittsburgh got to him for three runs. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. It’s unclear whether he’ll get another turn in the Reds’ starting rotation, but he’s in line to take the ball on Sunday afternoon against the Red Sox. Rotoworld Today, 6:58 pm

  • Randy Vásquez allows six runs in loss to Phillies
Randy Vásquez was lit up for six runs over 4 1/3 innings on Monday in a loss to the Phillies.

Advice: Vásquez was tagged for an astounding 12 hits, including a pair of homers, and was saddled with his fourth loss of the year. He struck out two and also issued a pair of walks. The 25-year-old righty is not a recommended fantasy option when he takes the ball on Saturday against the Brewers. Rotoworld Today, 6:32 pm

  • Expected to join team in San Diego
Junis (shoulder) is expected to join the Brewers during their four-game road series against the Padres beginning Thursday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Advice: Junis will meet the team in San Diego barring any discomfort from his sim game in Arizona on Monday according to manager Pat Murphy. The 31-year-old has been on the injured list since April 6 with a right shoulder impingement and a subsequent head injury, but he now appears to be on the cusp of a return to the major-league roster. It's unclear if Junis will be asked to step into the starting rotation upon his activation from the 60-day IL, but he'll likely be back in the rotation sooner rather than later. • Jakob Junis (shoulder, head) likely to come off IL
Jakob Junis will likely come off the injured list and pitch for the Brewers this weekend.

Advice: Junis, coming back from shoulder and head injuries, didn’t impress in his second rehab start June 8, but instead of having him do another one, he’s been pitching sim games with the Brewers. It’s unclear whether he’ll start against the Padres this weekend or pitch in relief initially. Rotoworld Today, 5:18 pm

  • Chase Silseth (elbow) to make third rehab start
Rather than rejoin the rotation, Chase Silseth will make a third rehab start on Friday.

Advice: Giving up three runs in five innings for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday wasn’t good enough to get Silseth back to the majors just yet. The Angels have off Thursday and Sunday this week, so there’s little harm in keeping Silseth down for now. If he pitches well Friday, he’ll probably be added to the rotation next week. Silseth has been out since early April with elbow inflammation. Rotoworld Today, 5:12 pm

  • Set for another rehab start
Silseth (elbow) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday against Reno, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Silseth is set for a fifth rehab start and third with Salt Lake. The 24-year-old has been on the injured list since April 8 due right elbow inflammation, but he appears to be closing in on a return to the major-league roster. Through two starts at Triple-A, Silseth has struggled a little, surrendering nine runs on 11 hits and eight walks while striking out seven batters over 7.2 innings. He'll look to put together a more successful outing Friday versus Reno. Rotowire.com Today, 5:03 pm

  • Set to start Monday
Plesac will draw the start Monday versus the Brewers.

Advice: Plesac will replace Jose Soriano (abdomen) on the mound after Soriano was a late scratch with lower abdominal pain Monday. Plesac had his contract selected by Los Angeles on Monday and he'll now get his first chance to start a major-league contest in 2024. The right-hander has produced a 5.42 ERA and 1.43 WHIP with 51 strikeouts over 74.2 innings in 13 starts with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. Rotowire.com Today, 4:30 pm

  • Claimed by O's, sent to Triple-A
Avila (undisclosed) was claimed off release waivers by the Orioles before being optioned to Triple-A Norfolk and placed on the minor-league 7-day injured list Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Avila was released by the Giants on Sunday, but it didn't take him long to find a new suitor. The right-hander has been out since May 31 while nursing an unspecified injury, but he will now account for the final slot on Baltimore's 40-man roster. Avila struggled to a 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP with 14 strikeouts over 11.2 innings in eight appearances with San Francisco, so he'll likely have to prove himself at Norfolk before the Orioles would potentially call him up to the majors down the road.
