      Advice: Ramirez is up to six homers and 16 RBI over 21 contests in June while hitting .294 (25-for-85) for the month. The third baseman opened the scoring Friday, but the Royals poured on seven runs before the Guardians had a response. Overall, Ramirez continues to provide elite all-around production with 22 homers, 73 RBI, 62 runs scored, 15 stolen bases and a .278/.332/.547 slash line through 77 contests.       Michael Kopech pitched a hitless ninth inning against the Rockies for his seventh save Friday.

      Advice: Kopech has saves on back-to-back days after going nearly six weeks without one. It’s good to see, but it does mean he’ll be of Saturday, perhaps creating a save opportunity for Steven Wilson. John Brebbia has also pitched back-to-back days, so he probably won’t be an option.       Kopech earned the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rockies, pitching a scoreless inning and working around a walk.

      Advice: The 28-year-old entered the ninth with a two-run lead and looked to immediately be in danger as he opened with six-pitch walk to Ryan McMahon. However, Kopech induced two consecutive groudouts, including one of the double-play variety, to escape with just his second save in June. The Chicago right-hander lowered his season ERA to 4.46 over 34.1 innings as he appears to have seized control of the closer's role over John Brebbia for the time being.       Scherzer (1-1) took the loss against the Orioles on Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Scherzer surrendered a solo home run to Colton Cowser in the fourth inning and an RBI single to Gunnar Henderson in the fifth. He retired the first batter of the sixth frame but was pulled at 77 pitches, as he is still building up his pitch count. The 39-year-old passed Greg Maddux for 11th on the all-time strikeout list and now has 3,375 career punchouts.       Advice: Fairbanks was asked to protect a 3-1 lead in the ninth inning and worked around a one-out walk to secure his 13th save of the season. The closer has rebounded from a blown save June 20 to nail down three consecutive scoreless saves.       Max Scherzer allowed two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Orioles. He struck out four and walked two in a loss.

      Advice: This version of Scherzer could be effective if he wasn’t pitching against the best lineup in baseball. He stayed around the zone, made hitters feel uncomfortable, mixed all five of his pitches, and got his fastball up to 95 MPH.     • Pete Fairbanks slams door on Nationals in ninth
      Pete Fairbanks slammed the door on the Nationals in the ninth inning on Friday night, protecting a two-run lead to earn his 13th save of the season.

      Advice: Fairbanks had to work a bit in the ninth inning of this one, as he issued a one-out walk to Keibert Ruiz to bring the tying run to the plate. He battled back though, getting Eddie Rosario on a line drive to right field and Nick Senzel on a ground ball to first base to end it. In all, he needed 22 pitches (13 strikes) to get the job done.       Kopech struck out one while not allowing a hit or a walk during the ninth inning Thursday to pick up the save against Atlanta.

      Advice: A fielding error is all that prevented a 1-2-3 outing from Kopech, who collected his first save since May 15 after having blown his previous three opportunities. Kopech carries an impressive K/9 rate of 13.0, collecting 48 strikeouts over 33.1 innings. However, he's also allowed 48 batters to reach base (1.44 WHIP), including allowing 1.9 homers and 5.1 walks per nine innings. Kopech is a piece the White Sox will strongly consider selling at the trade deadline and will look for more performances like he provided Thursday to help them maximize the return they might get for him.
