    • Strikes out eight in win
Yamamoto (5-1) earned the win Monday over the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out eight over 6.1 innings.

Advice: Yamamoto was able to rebound after being not at his best last Monday versus the Giants. The rookie right-hander put together his fifth quality start in his last six outings, though the win was briefly endangered after Elieser Hernandez gave up a pair of solo home runs in the eighth inning. Yamamoto is at a 3.17 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 61:11 K:BB through 54 innings over 10 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road in a tough venue, Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:58 pm
    • Expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Monday that he expects Eflin (back) to be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Eflin landed on the 15-day injured list Monday with a lower-back injury that he felt crop up toward the end of his last start. The right-hander said it feels similar to an injury that cost him two weeks last season. While the hope is that the absence will be similar in length this time around, his manager has allowed for the possibility for it to be a bit longer. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:13 pm

    • Rays place Zach Eflin on IL with back injury
Rays placed RHP Zach Eflin (lower back inflammation) on the 15-day injured list.

Advice: Eflin had a shaky start on Saturday, allowing four runs over six innings against the Blue Jays. Perhaps his back was an issue then. The Rays made his IL designation retroactive to Sunday, but he will still miss at least two starts as he recovers. The 30-year-old has a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 44/4 K/BB ratio across 59 innings but it’s unclear who will take his spot in the rotation, but perhaps the Rays will opt to bring Ryan Pepiot back from his leg injury without a rehab assignment. • Placed on IL with back injury
The Rays placed Eflin on the 15-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 19, with lower-back inflammation, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Advice: Eflin last pitched Saturday in Toronto, allowing four runs over six innings. It's not clear whether he developed the injury during that outing or another time, but either way he will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks. Ryan Pepiot (leg) is expected back from the IL this week and can slide into Eflin's rotation spot. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:35 am

    • Dominates Atlanta for win
Darvish (4-1) got the win over Atlanta on Sunday night, throwing seven shutout innings while allowing just two hits and a walk. He struck out nine.

Advice: Darvish continued his excellent run since returning from the injured list April 30 and is now up to 25 straight scoreless innings, having last given up a run April 14. He had one instance with facing runners in scoring position after a first inning double by Marcell Ozuna. He ended his night by retiring the last 13 batters he faced in order and generated a season-high nine strikeouts while getting 14 whiffs on 99 pitches. Darvish also picked up career win No. 200 and will take an excellent 2.08 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 46:13 K:BB into his next start, which lines up to be against the Yankees during a weekend series. • Earns win against former team
Rodon (5-2) earned the win Sunday against the White Sox, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out six.

Advice: Rodon allowed a homer and a triple in the second inning, leading to two runs, but didn't allow another runner to cross the plate through six quality frames against his former club. According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, Yankees manager Aaron Boone confessed after the game that Rodon was battling a cold all week, and the skipper considered pulling him after five but was impressed with the way he battled back after the shaky second frame. It was the third consecutive quality start and win for Rodon, who will carry a 3.27 ERA into his next start, tentatively slated to take place in San Diego when the Yankees travel to take on the Padres during a three-game weekend set. • Yu Darvish strikes out nine in victory over Braves
Yu Darvish delivered a dominant performance in Sunday night’s victory over the Braves, piling up nine strikeouts over seven innings of scoreless baseball.

Advice: The 37-year-old right-hander gave up just two hits on the evening while allowing one base on balls. Only once did the Braves put a man in scoring position against him, and that was on Marcell Ozuna’s two-out double in the opening inning. He finished his night by retiring the final 13 hitters that he faced in order. Darvish got 14 swings and misses on 99 pitches on the night, posting a strong CSW of 34 percent. He now boasts a 2.08 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and a 46/13 K/BB ratio over 47 2/3 innings through his first nine starts on the season. He’ll look to keep the good times rolling when he does battle against the Yankees on Friday. Rotoworld Sunday, 7:05 pm
    • Carlos Rodón goes six in defeating former team
Carlos Rodón pitched six innings of two-run ball and struck out six Sunday as the Yankees topped the White Sox 7-2.

Advice: Rodón got 23 missed swings today, with seven of those coming on the 18 changeups he threw. Rodón had been throwing the changeup just six percent of the time this season, and if he can continue to get results with that pitch, he’ll be considerably more dangerous. As is, Rodón is already 5-2 with a 3.27 ERA. Still, his peripherals haven’t backed up the ERA to date. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:50 pm

    • Escapes with no-decision Saturday
Eflin came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Blue Jays, giving up four runs on nine hits over six innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.

Advice: After keeping Toronto hitters in check the first time through the order, Eflin saw the wheels come off in the fourth and fifth innings, as he put the Rays in a 4-0 hole that they eventually climbed out of. The right-hander managed to keep the ball in the yard, snapping a streak of four straight starts in which he'd served up a homer. Eflin will take a 4.12 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and stellar 44:4 K:BB through 59 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next weekend against the Royals. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:13 pm
