      Scherzer (back/arm) is expected to throw 70-75 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, which will be his final rehab start barring a setback, Josh Kirshenbaum of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Saturday's start will be Scherzer's second rehab appearance, following up four scoreless innings Sunday. If all goes well, Scherzer will be ready to return to the active roster and make his 2024 debut after undergoing an offseason back surgery and dealing with thumb and forearm issues throughout his recovery. The right-hander has yet to make his major-league debut this year as he's been recovering from offseason back surgery and then a subsequent thumb injury he suffered in April.       Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy told reporters on Saturday that Devin Williams (back) remains on track to return after the All-Star break.

      Advice: Murphy also noted that the 29-year-old hurler is expected to get on a mound soon as he continues his recovery from a pair of stress fractures in his back. While Trevor Megill has been outstanding in his stead, Williams is one of the premiere closers in all of baseball and should jump right back into the Brewers’ ninth inning role as soon as he’s healthy enough to do so.       Diaz gave up a hit and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Friday to record his sixth save of the season in a 2-1 win over the Padres.

      Advice: A leadoff single by Jurickson Profar and a stolen base by pinch runner Jose Azocar created another nervous ninth for the Mets, but Diaz buckled down after that and fanned Manny Machado and Jake Cronenworth to preserve the win. Diaz's velocity appears to be all the way back -- his fastest pitch Friday hit 100 mph -- and he's looked to be in just about peak form in two appearances since recovering from a shoulder impingement.       Advice: Scherzer appears to be close to making it back for the defending World Series champions after suffering a thumb-related setback during his rehabilitation process from offseason back surgery.       Langford went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and an RBI in Friday's 3-2 loss to Seattle.

      Advice: Langford had a run-producing single in the first inning then put himself in scoring position with a steal. Since returning from a hamstring injury in late May, Langford is batting .306/.346/.429 with four extra-base hits, nine RBI, four steals and four runs scored over 13 games.       Advice: Chourio would surely be back in the minors at this point if he hadn’t signed a long-term deal this spring, but it’s not like he’s embarrassing himself with a .229/.280/.365 line as a 20-year-old in a season in which offense has been hard to come by.
