Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat eight while Whit Merrifield will play second base. Since Trea Turner went down with an injury, Merrifield has gotten a lot more playing time, but he’s hitting just .156 in 10 games in May, so there hasn’t been much to write home about. The second baseman has just one stolen base on the year after reaching double digits in each of the previous eight full-length seasons, but the rest of his numbers are strong.       Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer on Wednesday against the Guardians.

      Advice: With the game scoreless through four innings, Semien put the Rangers on the board with a two-run blast off Carlos Carrasco in the fifth. It was the eighth home run of the season for the 33-year-old second baseman. Semien is hitting .276/.320/.464 with 33 runs scored, 31 RBI, and one steal across 206 plate appearances.       Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a double as the Rangers were shutout in the loss to the Guardians on Monday.

      Advice: It was a quiet night for the Rangers offense. While it was ruled a double, Semien’s hit was definitely misplayed by Guardians outfielder Estevan Florial.     • Bryson Stott stays hot, Phillies edge Mets
      Bryson Stott went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two RBI on Monday, powering the Phillies to a 5-4 win over the Mets in a 10-inning marathon.

      Advice: Stott delivered late for Philadelphia, taking Mets stopper Edwin Díaz deep to lead off the ninth inning before tacking on a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the ensuing frame to put the Phillies ahead for good in a back-and-forth slugfest at Citi Field. The 26-year-old infielder has been on an absolute heater of late, batting .433 (13-for-30) with one homer and five steals in nine contests since the start of May, which obviously doesn’t include a two-homer explosion back on April 28. He has recorded 10 stolen bases on the season while getting caught only once. Stott has notched at least one hit in eight out of his last nine contests, batting .414 with four extra-base hits, nine RBI, nine runs scored and five stolen bases over that stretch.
