    • Rehab stint coming soon
Thomas (knee) could start his rehab assignment next week, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Advice: Thomas has been making progress since suffering a Grade 2 MCL sprain on April 23 and could return to game action as early as next week. Assuming all goes well during his rehab assignment, Thomas could return from the injured list before the end of May. Rotowire.com Today, 1:51 pm

    • Has clubhouse locker, not with team
Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore but still has a locker in the Blue Jays' clubhouse, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The veteran shortstop was hit by a pitch on the hand during a rehab game Wednesday, and he's experienced some swelling and soreness. Crawford has yet to join the team, but the fact he has a locker could indicate he still may return from the injured list this weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 1:51 pm

    • Out again Friday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against San Diego,Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: Riley won't be starting for a fourth consecutive game as he deals with inflammation in his left side. Instead, Zack Short will draw another start at the hot corner and bat ninth. Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said that Riley is feeling better but isn't quite ready yet, per David O'Brien of The Athletic. He remains day-to-day. Rotowire.com Today, 12:37 pm

    • Shows improvement
Baz (elbow) struck out three and allowed one earned run on five hits and two walks over 3.1 innings Thursday in the third start of his minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham.

Advice: After issuing five walks in just 1.2 innings in his second rehab start, Baz demonstrated improved control. Though he still walked two of the 17 batters (11.8 percent) he faced, the right-hander spotted 49 of his 69 pitches for strikes. Baz will likely make at least one more rehab start for Durham before the Rays bring him back from the 15-day injured list. Rotowire.com Today, 8:59 am

    • Mariners unsure when J.P. Crawford will return
J.P. Crawford (hand, oblique) didn’t travel with the Mariners for Friday’s series opener against the Orioles.

Advice: Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times adds that the Mariners aren’t certain when Crawford will return as he’s dealing with soreness and swelling in his right hand after being hit by a pitch during Wednesday’s rehab contest for Triple-A Tacoma. The 29-year-old shortstop will presumably undergo additional testing and imaging to determine the extent of the injury. There should be an update on his status at some point in the next few days. • Timeline to return unclear
Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

Advice: Crawford was hit by a pitch in the hand during a minor-league rehab assignment Wednesday and was still sore and swollen one day later. He doesn't have a clear timeline to return, and he managed only six plate appearances with Triple-A Tacoma prior to the new injury. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 5:06 pm

    • Shane Baz (elbow) fills up strike zone on Thursday
Shane Baz (elbow) allowed one run over 3 1/3 innings on Thursday for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz struck out three and only issued a pair of walks. He generated only five swinging strikes, but was able to locate the strike zone effectively, throwing a whopping 49 of 69 pitches for strikes. It was a much-needed improvement after handing out five free passes his last time out. The 24-year-old former top pitching prospect remains without a definitive timetable to return to Tampa Bay’s starting rotation as he continues to build up his pitch count and stamina in the minors. • Aiming for Saturday return
Buxton (knee) will play one more rehab game with Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday before targeting a return to the Twins on Saturday in Cleveland, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.

Advice: Buxton kicked off a rehab assignment with St. Paul on Wednesday, going 0-for-3 at the plate and playing seven innings in center field. He'll likely be asked to play a full game there Thursday and, assuming all goes well, will be activated Saturday following a day of rest Friday. Buxton has been out since early May while battling right knee inflammation. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:29 am

    • Fans two for seventh save
Doval earned the save over the Dodgers on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Doval entered the game with a three-run lead in the ninth and quickly retired the first two batters on strikes before walking Mookie Betts and surrendering a single to Shohei Ohtani. However, the right-hander was able to get Freddie Freeman to ground out for the final out and notch his seventh save in as many chances. Doval has also recorded two strikeouts in three straight appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:24 am
