    • Locks down third save
Duran earned the save in a win over the Mariners on Wednesday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Duran entered the game with a 6-3 lead in the top of the ninth and needed nine pitches to record the first out. The right-handed reliever then managed to work his way back from a 3-0 count to retire Jorge Polanco on strikes for the final out of the game. It marked Duran's third save of the season and he's now pitched a perfect inning in back-to-back appearances. He's also yet to walk a batter or allow a run on the campaign. • Allows three homers in loss
Kirby (3-3) was hit with the loss against the Twins on Wednesday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Kirby didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, surrendering back-to-back home runs to Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach in the first inning, along with a third long ball off the bat of Willi Castro in the following frame. The right-hander had not allowed more than one home run in a start coming in and had held opponents to one or fewer runs in each of his previous three outings. On a positive note, Kirby has now gone at least five innings in five consecutive starts, posting a 32:3 K:BB over that stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 5:33 am
    • Fills in at first base
Candelario started at first base and went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Arizona.

Advice: Candelario moved across the diamond from third base to cover first for Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand), who is expected to miss four-to-six weeks. Candelario is one of several Cincinnati bats off to a slow start; the three-hit night raised his season average to .206, just the second day it's been above .200. Santiago Espinal took over for Candelario at third base. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:44 pm

    • Jhoan Duran shuts door on Mariners for third save
Jhoan Duran struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning for the save against the Mariners on Wednesday.

Advice: After a pair of eighth-inning appearances, Duran got back to closing duties against the Mariners on Wednesday. Up by three runs, he entered in the ninth to close it out and tossed a clean frame, striking out the final batter to end the game with his third save. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:37 pm

    • George Kirby surrenders four runs in loss to Twins
George Kirby allowed four runs with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: Kirby surrendered a pair of solo homers to Trevor Larnach and Carlos Correa in the first inning. Willi Castro got to Kirby in the second with a solo blast before driving in a fourth run with a triple in the fourth. Kirby tossed one more scoreless frame, ending his day after five at 70 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 4.15 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 45/5 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings. He’s lined up for a start against the Royals in Seattle on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:33 pm
    • Throws off mound Wednesday
Rodriguez (shoulder) threw 15 pitches off the mound Wednesday, Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Advice: It's the first time Rodriguez has thrown off a mound since he landed on the 15-day injured list a week ago with right shoulder inflammation. The hope is that the right-hander will be ready to go when his 15 days are up, but he still has some hurdles to clear in order to make that a reality. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:26 pm
    • Placed on IL
The Rays placed Pepiot on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: The transaction is retroactive to Monday, so Pepiot could be activated as soon as May 21 if he makes a speedy recovery from the leg injury, which he suffered when he was hit by a line drive in Sunday's 7-6 extra-inning win over the Mets. Taj Bradley (pectoral) was reinstated from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move and will be plugged into Pepiot's spot in the rotation beginning with Friday's game against the Yankees. • Rays place Ryan Pepiot (leg) on 15-day IL
Rays placed RHP Ryan Pepiot on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 6, with a left lower leg contusion.

Advice: Taj Bradley was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will make his 2024 regular season debut on Friday against the Yankees. Fortunately for fantasy managers, Pepiot should only need a minimum stint on the injured list and should be ready to jump right back into the Rays’ rotation when that time comes. • Brandon Drury exits game with hamstring injury
Brandon Drury left Wednesday’s game against the Pirates with left hamstring tightness.

Advice: Drury was replaced by Noal Schanuel at first base in the eighth inning. There’s no word if Drury will be out for an extended period of time, but a hamstring injury is always tricky. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:07 pm
