  • Josh Hader holds former team scoreless for save
    Josh Hader didn’t give up a run while picking up a save Friday against the Brewers.

    Advice: Hader gets the save against one of his former employers in Milwaukee. The southpaw has now saved six games in 2024, and he’s nearly halved his 8.38 ERA on April 19 to 4.50.   • Nestor Cortes strikes out six White Sox in win
    Nestor Cortes worked seven innings without allowing an earned run in the Yankees 4-2 win over the White Sox on Friday. He struck out six, walked one, allowed five hits, and earned the win.

    Advice: This was the fourth time this season that Cortes has completed at least seven innings. He’s been a reliable, steadying force in the Yankees’ rotation and looks to have bounced back fully after a poor 2023. Rotoworld Today, 7:11 pm
     
  • Extends throwing distance
    Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Rodriguez (shoulder) has extended his throwing program out to 60 feet, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

    Advice: Rodriguez had to pause his throwing program in early April due to discomfort in his left shoulder, but the fact that he's extended his throwing distance is an encouraging sign. He was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on April 17, which would make the left-hander eligible to return in mid-June. Rotowire.com Today, 4:55 pm
     
  • Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) throwing at 60 feet
    Diamondbacks’ skipper Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that Eduardo Rodriguez is now throwing at a distance of 60 feet.

    Advice: He has yet to throw off of a mound, but the fact that he has been playing catch and gradually increasing his distance is at least an encouraging sign. He’s going to require a long and slow build up — and several minor league rehab starts — before he’s ready to make his Diamondbacks’ debut.   • Dominant in first MLB win
    Skenes (1-0) earned the win over the Cubs on Friday, issuing just one walk while striking out 11 over six hitless innings.

    Advice: Skenes was lights out in his second big-league start -- he struck out the first seven batters faced while holding the Cubs without a baserunner until Michael Busch's one-out walk in the fifth inning. Skenes has certainly looked as-advertised to start his career -- he averaged 99.3 MPH with his fastball Friday, generating a 44-percent whiff rate with the pitch. The 21-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs through his first 10 innings while striking out 18.   • Paul Skenes goes six hitless, fans 11 in first win
    Paul Skenes pitched no-hit ball for six innings, striking out 11, in the Pirates’ 9-3 win over the Cubs on Friday.

    Advice: Skenes was overwhelming in striking out the first seven batters he faced, and he didn’t let up much after that. He allowed only one hard-hit ball, a 107-mph groundout from Miguel Amaya. In fact, six of his seven non-strikeout outs came on grounders.   • Fans eight in loss
    Glasnow (6-2) took the loss against the Reds on Thursday, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out eight over five innings.

    Advice: Glasnow ran into trouble early, surrendering a leadoff homer to Will Benson to open the contest along with an RBI double to Tyler Stephenson four batters later. The Reds would get to Glasnow again in the third and fifth innings, marking only the second time this season he's allowed four or more runs in an outing. The right-hander had logged four consecutive quality starts coming into Thursday and still carries a 3.32 ERA in May to go along with a 28:4 K:BB.   • Tyler Glasnow surrenders four runs in loss to Reds
    Tyler Glasnow struck out eight and was charged with four runs over five innings on Thursday in a loss to the Reds.

    Advice: It was a rare dud for Glasnow, who has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight of his 10 starts at the outset of his Dodgers debut. The 30-year-old righty will bring a and 81/16 K/BB ratio across 62 innings (10 starts) into a home outing on Tuesday against the division-rival Diamondbacks. Rotoworld Today, 2:55 am
     
  • Stuck with blown save
    Romano (1-1) took a loss and a blown save in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat to the Orioles, allowing two runs on two hits without recording an out in the ninth inning.

    Advice: Called upon to protect a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, Romano gave up an infield single to Jordan Westburg leading off the frame before Adley Rutschman launched a two-run, walk-off homer. It's the first blown save of the year for Romano -- he'd been 6-for-6 in save chances prior to Wednesday.
