• Playing time trending down
Goodman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

Advice: From June 15 through June 25, Goodman made nine starts at either catcher or designated hitter over a 10-game stretch and slashed .310/.333/.862 with five home runs, 10 RBI and seven runs. Despite his recent success, Goodman's avenue to regular playing time at either spot now appears to be blocked with the returns Elias Diaz and Charlie Blackmon from the injured list over the weekend. Goodman will take a seat for the fourth time in five games, and his starting opportunities could be largely limited to left-handed pitching moving forward now that the Rockies have regained health. • Vlad Jr. (finger) scratched from Monday’s lineup
Blue Jays removed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (finger) from the starting lineup on Monday.

Advice: Guerrero Jr. was hit by a pitch in the hand yesterday and seemed confident he’d be able to play, but the Blue Jays are pulling him from the lineup with “Right 4th/5th finger discomfort.” It’s likely that his hand just didn’t feel up to the task after batting practice, but it doesn’t seem like a situation that will keep him out too long. Spencer Horwitz will play first base in his absence. Rotoworld Today, 12:48 pm
  • Nightengale: Rival execs say Alonso is staying put
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, rival team execs believe it’s more likely that Pete Alonso is not traded at the deadline.

Advice: Nightengale mentioned that “rival teams who have expressed interest” in Alonso are “convinced” he will “definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race.” As of now, the Mets are just two games back and are 12-4 over their last 16 games. If the Mets do keep Alonso beyond the trade deadline, they will need to then decide how badly they want to extend him, but it would take one of the biggest power bats off the trade block this season. • Brewers designate Owen Miller for assignment
Brewers designated INF/OF Owen Miller for assignment.

Advice: With Garrett Mitchell coming off the 60-day IL, the Brewers needed an extra spot on the 40-man roster, so they decided to move on from Miller, who had been sent to Triple-A at the end of May. Miller had started the year strong for Milwaukee but is hitting just .185 on the season with a 39 percent strikeout rate. He’ll hope to get a shot with another organization. Rotoworld Today, 11:37 am

  • Sent outright to Triple-A
The Giants outrighted Brooks to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Brooks passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization. The first baseman went 3-for-25 at the plate during his time with the Giants before he was moved off the 40-man roster. Rotowire.com Today, 11:36 am
  • Brewers send Tyler Black to minors (again)
Brewers optioned INF Tyler Black to Triple-A Nashville.

Advice: Black got his second chance with the Brewers this season but rarely played, going 3-for-11 and sitting this entire week before being demoted to make room for Garrett Mitchell to come off the IL. Black has the tolls to be a useful fantasy player, but he might not get the opportunity this season. Rotoworld Today, 11:31 am

  • Scratched from lineup
Guerrero was scratched from the lineup for Monday's game against the Astros due to right fourth/fifth finger discomfort, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Guerrero was hit in the right hand by a pitch in the third inning Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Yankees and was ultimately removed from the contest in the bottom of the eighth. While he was initially slated to play Monday in the series opener versus the Astros, some lingering soreness will ultimately prevent him from doing so. X-rays on the hand returned negative, and Guerrero is considered day-to-day. Ernie Clement will enter the lineup as a replacement for Guerrero, manning third base and batting ninth. • Returns off bench Sunday
Drury (illness) went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in a loss to Detroit on Sunday.

Advice: Drury sat out nine straight games due to an illness before returning to action Sunday. He didn't start but entered as a pinch hitter in the sixth inning and remained in the contest for another at-bat as the team's DH. Per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, Drury is expected to return to the starting lineup Tuesday against the Athletics. Rotowire.com Today, 10:06 am

  • Resumes rehab assignment
Votto (ankle/back) resumed his rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Tuesday before shifting his assignment to Single-A Dunedin later in the week and going 0-for-6 with a strikeout in his first two games in the Florida State League.

Advice: After experiencing lower-back tightness coming out of his third rehab game in the FCL on June 19, Votto was held out of action for a little less than a week before returning to the lineup. Votto will continue to stockpile at-bats in the lower levels of the minors before eventually making his way to Triple-A Buffalo and getting activated from the affiliate's 7-day injured list. If Votto performs well at Buffalo, he could be in the mix for a promotion to Toronto's big-league roster at some point in the second half of the season. Rotowire.com Today, 10:03 am
