  • Sharp outing against Yankees
    Musgrove did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Yankees, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings.

    Advice: Musgrove blanked the Yankees through five before Juan Soto finally opened up the scoring with a one-out RBI double in the sixth that prompted Musgrove's exit after 87 pitches. Despite remaining winless since April 21, Sunday's start was an encouraging showing and one of Musgrove's best starts in what's been a tough season for him so far.   • Stuck with loss Sunday
    Schmidt (5-3) took the loss Sunday against the Padres after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings.

    Advice: Schmidt took a tough-luck loss Sunday in a game during which he took a shutout into the sixth inning. The first two batters in the frame would reach via an error and a walk before Schmidt turned things over to the bullpen. From there, Victor Gonzalez would allow both inherited runners to score. Schmidt registered a solid 16 whiffs on the afternoon and has recorded six or more strikeouts in five straight starts. The 28-year-old is showing signs of a legit breakout campaign and will carry a 2.52 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 67:20 K:BB (60.2 innings) into a projected matchup with the Giants this weekend.   • Impresses in starting role
    Walston did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss to the Marlins. He tossed 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and a walk and striking out four.

    Advice: Walston kept the Marlins' bats at bay and looked sharp in his first MLB start. He struck out a pair in the opening frame and was able to shut down the minimal scoring opportunities against him. Walston also pounded the zone, throwing 46 of his 65 pitches for strikes while garnering eight whiffs on the afternoon. Manager Torey Lovullo has not yet indicated whether Walston will get another start or not. If he does, the 23-year-old lefty would line up to face the Mets in New York this weekend.     Double-A Harrisburg placed Henry on its 7-day injured list May 9 with an unspecified injury.

    Advice: Harrisburg deactivated Henry a week after he gave up three runs over a three-inning start versus Altoona on May 2. The 24-year-old right-hander was protected from the Rule 5 Draft over the winter and possesses a spot on the Nationals' 40-man roster, but he doesn't appear especially close to making his MLB debut.     Weathers improved to 3-4 on the season after tossing six scoreless innings in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Diamondbacks. He allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out seven.

    Advice: Weathers capped off his excellent run in May with another dominant outing Sunday. All four hits given up were singles and he never really faced much of a threat en route to his first win since April 16. Weathers has now posted least seven strikeouts in consecutive outings, something he only did once in his first nine starts this year. He now has five straight quality starts and has given up just one run in his last 21 innings.     Gray (7-2) got the win over the Cubs on Sunday, tossing five scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and walking two. He struck out eight.

    Advice: Gray was as sharp as ever, needing 74 pitches to cruise through five innings of work. The 34-year-old registered an impressive 14 whiffs on the night, and the sweeper was his put away pitch, accounting for eight of the 14 whiffs. Gray his now fourth in the majors with seven wins and has seven starts allowing two runs or less.   • Hurt by home runs
    Assad (4-1) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings.

    Advice: Assad's final run line could've looked a lot better had it not been for two mistakes thrown to Paul Goldschmidt. He served up nearly identical two-run homers to Goldschmidt in the third and fifth innings to give the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish. Assad has now allowed multiple home runs in back-to-back starts while also walking eight batters over that span. The one positive to take away from Sunday's outing is he was able to tie his career-high with eight strikeouts and has 19 strikeouts over his last 15.2 innings.     Triple-A Sacramento placed Roupp on its 7-day injured list Friday with an unspecified injury.

    Advice: Roupp won a spot on the Giants' Opening Day roster as a multi-inning relief arm, but he was sent back to Triple-A on May 1 and had since taken on a rotation spot for Sacramento. Through three starts, Roupp posted a 2.79 ERA and 1.20 WHIP while striking out 16 over 9.2 innings. The injury comes at a particular inconvenient time, as the Giants might have had an opening in the rotation for Roupp this week after recently pulling the plug on Mason Black as their No. 5 starter.
