    • Royce Lewis (quad) increases baseball activities
      Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli told reporters on Friday that Royce Lewis (quad) has been progressing nicely in his recovery and has increased baseball activities in recent days.

      Advice: He’s now entering the fifth week of his recovery from a severe right quad strain and is tracking towards meeting that initial eight-week estimate that he was given when he sustained the injury.       Snell (thigh) will throw around 50 pitches Saturday during a bullpen session, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

      Advice: Manager Bob Melvin said if all goes well, the team will make a decision on whether Snell will have a rehab assignment or face hitters in live batting practice next. It was already anticipated that Snell would need more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list with his Grade 2 adductor strain, so a mid-May return is still the best-case scenario.       Cole (elbow) is expected to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

      Advice: Cole will throw off a mound for the first time since being placed on the 60-day injured list with nerve irritation and edema in his right elbow in late March. The 33-year-old is reportedly targeting a return in "mid June," according to Heyman. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the IL on May 27, but it appears as if he will remain sidelined for awhile longer than that. With his pedigree, it comes as no surprise that the Yankees are being cautious with their ace, who produced a 2.63 ERA with a 9.6 K/9 over 209 innings in 33 starts last year.       Advice: Heyman adds that Cole is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session on Saturday as he works his way back from nerve inflammation in his right elbow. The 33-year-old fantasy ace should progress to facing hitters in the coming weeks before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment.     • Edward Cabrera whiffs nine, allows four vs. Rockies
      Edward Cabrera allowed four runs in four innings while fanning nine against the Rockies on Thursday.

      Advice: Cabrera pitched better than this line suggests, but a three-run homer by Jacob Stallings turned a strong outing into a mediocre one. The right-hander did have command issues, however, as he walked four and threw 56-of-91 pitches for strikes. Still, an encouraging outing that showed off the 26-year-old’s swing-and-miss potential.       Edwin Díaz hurled two scoreless innings against the Cubs on Thursday.

      Advice: It comes in a non-save situation, but fantasy managers who roster Díaz get to see their ERA drop with the scoreless frames. He also picked up a pair of strikeouts, and that improves his K/BB to 19/4 over 12 2/3 innings. There really hasn’t been much — if any — rust to shake off for Díaz after missing all of 2023.       Cabrera didn't factor into Thursday's decision against the Rockies, allowing four runs on three hits and four walks while striking out nine over four innings.

      Advice: Three of the Rockies' four runs against Cabrera came on a Jacob Stallings homer in the second inning. Cabrera had the strikeout pitch working Thursday, though his command remained inconsistent, as he needed 91 pitches to record just 12 outs. Cabrera's now been held to fewer than five innings in consecutive outings. His ERA is up to 6.05 with a 1.50 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB through his first four starts (19.1 innings).       Kwan went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Astros.

      Advice: Kwan's RBI triple in the fifth inning gave the Guardians a 2-0 lead, and he plated the decisive run with a double in the 10th. He ended up a home run short of the cycle in Wednesday's strong performance. The leadoff hitter has gone 11-for-28 (.393) during his seven-game hitting streak, and he's slashing an excellent .360/.403/.512 with three homers, 11 RBI, 27 runs scored, three stolen bases, six doubles and two triples over 29 contests this season.
