However, he flirted with danger as Ryan McMahon and Brendan Rodgers hit back-to-back singles to start the final half-inning. Finnegan kept the game-tying run at second and retired three straight to close out the contest. The 32-year-old trails only Ryan Helsley and Emmanuel Clase for the most saves in baseball.       Diaz was ejected from Sunday's game against the Cubs for the use of an illegal substance following an inspection from the crew chief, Pat Ragazzo of SI.com reports.

      Advice: Diaz failed the "sticky substance" check upon entering the game in the bottom of the ninth inning with the Mets up 5-2. If MLB concurs with the crew chief's assessment, Diaz will receive an automatic 10-game suspension, so the Mets may be without their closer for some time. Expect a decision on a suspension to be announced before the Mets' next game Tuesday versus the Yankees.       Advice: Yikes. The 30-year-old hurler came on with the Mets leading by three runs in the ninth inning, but Diaz was tossed before he was even able to throw a pitch when the umpires performed their routine glove check.       Advice: It was not without drama, which is par for the course with Finnegan’s saves. He allowed back-to-back singles to start the inning, but then got Nolan Jones to strike out, Hunter Goodman to fly out, and caught Michael Toglia looking to end the game. Finnegan has a 2.23 ERA on the season but could lose a significant amount of fantasy value if he gets traded at the deadline.       Advice: Suarez likely wasn't expecting to make an appearance with the Padres up 6-0 to open the ninth, but things changed quickly when Brice Turang launched a grand slam off Jhony Brito to bring Milwaukee back within two runs with two outs in the frame. However, Suarez was able to put out the fire, retiring William Contreras on a groundout to end the game and secure his 19th save of the season. Suarez has not allowed any hits or walks over his last two appearances after suffering his only blown save of the year against the Phillies on June 18.       Kyle Finnegan was charged with two runs and failed to record an out on Saturday in an ugly blown save against the Rockies.

      Advice: Finnegan was saddled with a loss in the ninth inning after failing to hold a one-run lead at Coors Field. It was his first blown save since May 18. He gave up four consecutive hits to open the frame, including a game-tying single to Brenton Doyle, before handing out a bases-loaded free pass to Ryan McMahon to push across the game-winning run.       Advice: Montas held the Red Sox scoreless through four frames before giving up one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings. He still departed in line for the win but settled for a no-decision due to an eighth-inning Boston rally. Montas recorded his fifth quality start of the campaign and his third over his past five outings. He's registered a 4.48 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 53:27 K:BB through 66.1 innings on the season.     • Robert Suarez secures one-out save on Saturday
      Robert Suarez picked up his 19th save of the season on Saturday, recording the final out against the Brewers.

      Advice: It didn’t seem like Suarez would be needed in this one after the Padres entered the ninth inning leading 6-0, but after Brice Turang slugged a two-out grand slam that made things a bit tighter, the 33-year-old right-hander was summoned to close it out. It took him just three pitches to get William Contreras to bounce out to third base to end it. Montas has now won just one of his last 12 starts, though he was able to post his fourth quality start of the season. His ERA is now 4.48 on the year. The 31-year-old right-hander is set to face the Cardinals on the road next weekend.
