      Mets activated RHP Edwin Díaz from the restricted list.

      Advice: Díaz has finished serving an automatic 10-game suspension handed down by the league after he was ejected back on June 23 for using an illegal foreign substance.     • Pablo Lopez surrenders six runs in defeat
      Pablo López was tagged for six runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.

      Advice: López didn’t allow any extra-base hits tonight, but the singles were all bunched together. Four came in a three-run second inning that featured just one hard-hit ball. The remaining three runs all scored in the sixth after he allowed three singles to begin the inning and was pulled.     • Carlos Correa hits grand slam in loss to Astros
      Carlos Correa hit his third career grand slam Friday against the Astros.

      Advice: The slam was off Josh Hader in the ninth, but the Twins still came up a little short after scoring seven runs in the final frame of a 13-12 loss. It was Correa’s 11th homer this year., and he’s been one of the AL’s best players while batting .307/.377/.514. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:53 pm
       
    • Suarez blows save in collapse vs. Diamondbacks
      Robert Suarez got just one out and gave up three runs in a blown save against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

      Advice: The good news is Suarez didn’t end up with a loss because Paul Sewald was just as bad, if not worse. The bad news is, see above. Suarez was handed a big 7-2 cushion when he came in, but he gave up a grand slam to Alek Thomas — with the three inherited runners not counting against his ERA, and a two-run blast to Randal Grichuk to give Arizona an 8-7 lead. Suarez was then pulled in favor of Stephen Kolek to prevent further damage. Suarez still has an excellent 1.77 ERA and will remain the San Diego closer, but Friday night was an ugly reminder that he — and most closers — are far from infallible.       Alex Verdugo went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts as the Yankees’ cleanup hitter Friday against the Red Sox.

      Advice: Verdugo homered in his first game against his former team last month, but that’s the only homer he’s hit in five weeks since May 29. He’s hitting a modest .244/.301/.392 for the season, and he’s fortunate Jasson Dominguez’s oblique injury has left the Yankees with no quality replacements for him in left field.       Suarez allowed three runs on four hits in one-third of an inning to take a blown save in Friday's 10-8 win over the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: Suarez has typically been dominant when called upon, but he served up a grand slam to Alek Thomas, allowing three inherited runners to score, and then a two-run home run to Randal Grichuk. While the Diamondbacks briefly took an 8-7 lead, Stephen Kolek was able to finish off the inning, and the Padres rallied to win in their half of the ninth. Both of Suarez's blown saves this year have come over his last eight appearances, a span in which he's given up six runs (five earned) across 6.1 innings. He's at a 1.77 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 33:7 K:BB through 35.2 innings overall while adding 22 saves and a hold. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:31 pm

      Castillo (7-9) allowed a run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight over 6.2 innings to earn the win Friday over the Blue Jays.

      Advice: Castillo earned his first quality start in four outings with this impressive performance. The only run on his line was a solo home run by Kevin Kiermaier in the sixth inning. Castillo is now at a 3.72 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 111:32 K:BB through 111.1 innings over 19 starts this season. He's projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels in a favorable matchup.     • Castillo strikes out eight in victory over Jays
      Luis Castillo allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts while holding the Blue Jays to one run in a victory Friday.

      Advice: Castillo took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a solo homer to Kevin Kiermaier to break up the no-no and the shutout. He allowed a single to Spencer Horwitz a batter later, but that was it in terms of hits. It was a sensational outing for Castillo which has been the usual for the right-hander at home; he has a 2.14 ERA over his last 12 dozen outings in Seattle. The road has been a tougher task for him, but for the most part, Castillo has been a strong option in 2024. This was an example of him at his best. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:13 pm

      Lopez (8-7) took the loss Friday against Houston, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

      Advice: Despite not allowing a homer, the Minnesota right-hander managed to yield six or more runs for the fourth time this season. Lopez generated a paltry eight whiffs out of his 91 pitches as Houston was dialed in on his arsenal. The 28-year-old now sports a disappointing 5.18 ERA across 99 innings on the season.
