    • John Means undergoes second Tommy John surgery
John Means underwent his second Tommy John surgery on Monday.

Advice: This wasn’t the internal brace procedure, so if Means, who will be a free agent this winter, does return next year, it won’t be until the end of the season. Means totaled just 40 1/3 innings rehabbing in the minors and 44 1/3 major league innings in between his surgeries. He had a 2.64 ERA in his eight starts for the Orioles between this year and last. • Yields four unearned runs
Lynn gave up four runs, all unearned, on three hits and two walks while striking out four over four-plus innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Sunday.

Advice: An error by the usually sure-handed Masyn Winn in the second inning ultimately allowed two runs to score. In the fifth, Lynn and catcher Ivan Herrera each committed an error as well, allowing the Phillies to generate another two runs. Since the Cardinals' defense let him down, Lynn will avoid any damage on his ERA, which is now at 3.23 on the year after this short outing. He's allowed at least four runs in four of his last six starts, which is the more concerning issue at hand. Lynn also has a poor 1.34 WHIP and 57:25 K:BB through 61.1 innings. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rockies. Rotowire.com Sunday, 8:11 pm

    • Lance Lynn gives up four runs in no-decision
Lance Lynn wasn’t at his best in Sunday night’s no-decision against the Phillies, surrendering four runs on three hits over his four-plus frames.

Advice: The right-hander struck out four batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. The Phillies scratched out a pair of runs against him in the second inning on an RBI double by Garrett Stubbs and a ground ball by Johan Rojas. Lynn then allowed a two-run single to Stott in the fifth inning before turning the ball over to the bullpen. Lynn got nine swings and misses on 78 pitches on the night, registering a CSW of 23 percent. He’ll carry a 3.23 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 57/25 K/BB ratio (61 1/3 innings) into Friday’s matchup against the Rockies. Rotoworld Sunday, 7:16 pm

    • Stumbles vs. Oakland
Sale allowed eight runs on nine hits and a walk over four innings against the A's on Saturday. He struck out four.

Advice: It was a rough day for Sale, who allowed six runs over his first two innings before Brent Rooker added two more with a home run in the fourth. Sale hadn't allowed more than one run in six straight starts prior to Saturday while recording eight or more strikeouts in each of his last five outings. Overall, the veteran left-hander is 8-1 on the season with a 3.06 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 82:10 K:BB across 67.2 innings. Sale will look to right the ship in his next start, currently scheduled for next week in Washington. Rotowire.com Saturday, 5:14 pm
    • Sale allows eight runs in no-decision
Chris Sale allowed eight runs in four innings and got a no-decision against the Athletics on Saturday.

Advice: Sale allowed nine hits, walked one and struck out four. He was due for a bad start after a dominant stretch where he won his last seven consecutive starts. He had his worst outing of the year against the Athletics. It’s the only time Sale was unable to complete five innings in 11 tries this year. His ERA increased from 2.11 to 3.06. The 35-year-old left-hander will look to get back on track against the Nationals on the road next week. Rotoworld Saturday, 4:24 pm
    • Sharp in Friday's no-decision
Berrios came away with a no-decision in Friday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Pirates, allowing one run on six hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander pounded the zone in his fourth straight quality start and 10th in 12 trips to the mound this season, firing 69 of 101 pitches for strikes. Berrios is tracking toward a career year, and he'll take a 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 58:18 K:BB through 74.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Orioles. • JosĂ© BerrĂos allows one earned run in no-decision
JosĂ© BerrĂos struck out five Pirates across seven innings on Friday in a no-decision. He allowed six hits and didn’t walk a batter.

Advice: Berríos leaned into his trusted slurve in this one and kept the Pirates off-balance all night. He’s allowed more than three earned runs in just one start this season while completing at least six innings 10 times in 12 starts. That’s as steady as they come. Rotoworld Friday, 8:05 pm
    • Requires UCL surgery
Orioles GM Mike Elias announced Friday that Wells will undergo surgery to repair his right elbow's UCL and will miss the remainder of the season, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Wells had begun playing catch while on the road to recovery for his elbow, but his discomfort continued, which will now lead to a season-ending surgery. Elias also stated that it's unknown whether Wells will be getting Tommy John surgery, though more information should be disclosed once the reliever goes in for the procedure. • Tyler Wells to undergo season-ending surgery
Orioles’ general manager Mike Elias announced Friday that Tyler Wells will undergo season-ending surgery on his right elbow.

Advice: In a brutal blow to the Orioles’ pitching depth, Elias announced that both Wells and John Means would undergo operations to repair their UCL’s. It’s not clear if that will be Tommy John surgery or the internal brace procedure, but both hurlers are going to miss the remainder of the 2024 season and the start of the 2025 campaign as well while recovering. The Orioles will now rely more heavily on Albert Suarez and Cole Irvin in the rotation for the remainder of the season. Rotoworld Friday, 1:24 pm
