    • Nails down ninth save
Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday, pitching a perfect ninth inning while striking out one.

Advice: Bednar entered the game to protect a one-run lead in the bottom of the ninth and needed only eight pitches to retire the side and secure his ninth save of the season. The right-handed reliever has converted each of his last eight save attempts and carries a 2.57 ERA in May to go along with a 6:2 K:BB. Bednar has also recorded at least one strikeout in three straight appearances and in six of seven appearances overall this month. Rotowire.com Today, 3:48 am
    • Takes extra-innings loss
Alvarado (1-2) took the loss during Thursday's 11-inning 6-5 loss to the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and no walks across one inning. He struck out two.

Advice: Alvarado didn't take the mound until the 11th frame with the score tied 4-4 and ended up with the loss. He allowed a single to J.D. Martinez to open up the inning -- scoring designated runner Francisco Lindor -- before Harrison Bader doubled to put two runners aboard. Alvarado managed to retire the next three batters he faced; however, Martinez crossed home plate on a wild pitch to give the Mets an insurance run. Through 18.2 innings, Alvarado owns a 3.86 ERA and is 8-for-8 in save chances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:43 pm
    • Bednar with another clean inning for save
David Bednar picked up the save against the Cubs on Thursday.

Advice: The save was Bednar’s ninth of the season. He pitched a clean ninth inning and recorded a strikeout to preserve a one-run lead. After a shaky start to the season, Bednar now has back-to-back clean innings in save opportunities. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:20 pm
    • Used in high-leverage spot
Fairbanks struck out two and didn't allow a baserunner in a scoreless eighth inning to pick up a hold in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Fairbanks entered the game in the eighth inning to face the heart of the Red Sox order and needed only seven pitches to get through the frame. While effective, his usage was concerning given that he had pitched nearly exclusively as a traditional closer early in the season. It's unclear whether manager Kevin Cash might continue to mix and match the back end of his bullpen, but Fairbanks could lose save opportunities moving forward. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:23 am
    • Delivers five-out save Wednesday
Munoz gave up a hit and struck out three over 1.2 scoreless innings Wednesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Royals.

Advice: Austin Voth ran into trouble in the eighth inning, so Munoz got the call with runners on second and third and only one out to protect a 3-1 lead. The Mariners' closer did allow an inherited runner to score, but Seattle got the run right back in the bottom of the frame and Munoz dominated the ninth. It's the fourth time this season he's worked more than one inning to notch a save, and with Matt Brash (elbow) done for the year and Gregory Santos (lat) potentially not back until the All-Star break, Munoz may have to continue putting in extra work until Seattle settles on a new setup crew. • AndrĂ©s Muñoz slams door on Royals on Wednesday
Andrés Muñoz slammed the door on the Royals on Wednesday afternoon, recording the final five outs to protect a two-run lead and earn his seventh save of the season.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander came on with runners at second and third with one out in the eighth inning and the Mariners leading 4-1. He did allow a run to score as Bobby Witt Jr. grounded out to second base, but then Muñoz punched out Vinnie Pasquantino to end the threat. He returned for the ninth where he allowed a leadoff double to Salvador Perez but nothing more — finishing the frame with a pair of strikeouts. He now holds a 1.47 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and a 24/7 K/BB ratio (18 1/3 innings) to go along with seven saves and a pair of wins on the season. Rotoworld Wednesday, 4:54 pm
    • Pitches well in return
Fairbanks struck out two and didn't allow a baserunner across a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Fairbanks was briefly sidelined due to a cut on his throwing hand, but he returned to pitch the ninth inning of a tied game Tuesday. He showed no ill effects from the injury and has turned in two scoreless outings since returning from a nerve issue in his arm. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:26 am
    • Available Tuesday
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Fairbanks (finger) is available for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: The right-hander was unavailable Monday due to a cut on his index finger, but he's good to go for Tuesday's contest. Fairbanks was reinstated from the injured list Saturday and delivered a scoreless frame in his lone appearance since being activated. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 3:35 pm
    • Pete Fairbanks (finger) ready to close on Tuesday
Pete Fairbanks (finger) is available on Tuesday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Fairbanks was unavailable to close on Monday night at Fenway Park due to a small cut on his right index finger, which led to Jason Adam converting a save chance. However, it doesn’t sound like an issue heading into Tuesday’s showdown. Rotoworld Tuesday, 3:18 pm
