      Corbin Carroll went 3-for-5 with a double, a steal and two runs scored as the Diamondbacks edged the Padres 4-3 on Thursday.

      Advice: It’s just Carroll’s second three-hit game of the year. All three of Carroll’s hits were legit, leaving his bat on a line at 108, 106 and 99 mph. It’s definitely his most encouraging game in weeks and maybe of the entire season. At .201, he finished the game over the Mendoza Line for the first time since May 12. The outfielder is slashing .201/.284/.291 with two home runs, 10 thefts, 20 RBI, 30 runs scored, seven doubles and four triples over 61 games in a so-far disappointing sophomore campaign.       Advice: Carroll was moved down to the eighth in the order the last two games, but that is an adjustment against left-handers only. There are indicators to explain his issues -- fewer barrels and an increase in pop-up rate jump out -- but he's retained good plate discipline and luck appears to be a factor.
