    • Chas McCormick strikes out three times
Chas McCormick fanned all three times he was up Friday versus the Twins.

Advice: The Astros have decided that José Abreu’s pre-2023 track record matters more than McCormick’s impressive 2023 output and have thus started McCormick just twice in the last six games. We think that’s probably the wrong call, but at the same time, McCormick has not, in any way, resembled the threat he was last year. We still think the Astros should give him a few weeks of regular playing time to see if he can bounce back, but we’re not especially optimistic that he would take advantage of said opportunity. • Starring role in win
Tovar went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 4-1 win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Tovar was the only Rockie with multiple hits in the contest. This was his 10th multi-hit effort over his last 16 games, a span in which he's batting .356 (26-for-73) with four homers, nine RBI, 14 runs scored and one stolen base. The shortstop is up to a .294/.328/.481 slash line with eight homers, 24 RBI, 30 runs scored, four steals, 17 doubles and a triple over 55 contests this season. He still hits far better at home (.862 OPS), but he's been passable on the road this season as well with a .757 OPS away from Coors Field. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:23 pm
    • Ezequiel Tovar picks up three hits, homers in win
Ezequiel Tovar went 3-for-4 with a solo homer in a win Friday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Tovar gave the Rockies a 4-0 lead with a solo homer in the fourth off Walker Buehler. The shortstop has homered eight times in 2024 with five of them coming in May. Tovar still needs to show a little more consistency to reach an elite level, but the talent is there for him to reach that lofty status in the coming years. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:47 pm
    • Mark Canha undergoes additional testing on hip
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters after Friday’s loss to the Red Sox that Mark Canha underwent additional testing on his injured left hip.

Advice: Canha was a late scratch from Friday’s lineup with the hip issue — which apparently has been bothering him for some time now and finally told the Tigers that he couldn’t play through it any longer. We’ll wait and see what the test results yield, but there’s a chance that the 35-year-old outfielder may wind up on the injured list. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:10 pm

    • Beginning rehab assignment Friday
Conforto (hamstring) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Conforto continues to work his way through a right hamstring strain that he sustained May 11 against the Reds. Before landing on the IL, Conforto was slashing .280/.331/.490 with seven home runs and 20 RBI over 154 plate appearances. If all goes well, he may only need a few rehab appearances before being activated. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:32 pm

    • Michael Conforto starts rehab assignment Friday
Michael Conforto (hamstring) began a minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Advice: The Giants’ outfield could use some reinforcements, and Conforto should be ready to provide that after a couple of minor league games to get his timing back. If all goes well, he should return to the active roster early next week. Before landing on the injured list, the 31-year-old slugger was hitting .280/.331/.490 with seven homers and 20 RBI in 38 games. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:16 pm

    • Mark Canha scratched Friday with sore left hip
Mark Canha was scratched from the Tigers’ starting lineup on Friday due to soreness in his left hip.

Advice: The 35-year-old outfielder is considered day-to-day. Andy Ibanez will replace him in the team’s starting lineup at second base with Colt Keith shifting to the designated hitter spot. The Tigers are already without Kerry Carpenter (back) for a significant amount of time, so they really can’t afford to have Canha to be out for long. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:18 pm

    • Scratched Friday
Canha was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Red Sox due to left hip soreness.

Advice: Canha was slated to serve as the designated hitter and bat in the cleanup spot Friday, but the 35-year-old was removed from the lineup due to the injury. Colt Keith will shift to DH and Andy Ibanez will start at second base, while Gio Urshela moves up to fourth in the batting order against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. • Randy Arozarena absent from Rays lineup on Friday
Randy Arozarena is absent from the Rays’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Orioles.

Advice: The 29-year-old outfielder’s struggles have been well documented this season, as he’s hitting a mere .159/.258/.313 with eight homers, 19 RBI and a 66/25 K/BB ratio over 229 plate appearances. Jonny DeLuca will start in his place in left field and will bat fifth for the Rays against Albert Suarez and the Orioles on Friday evening in Baltimore. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:54 pm
