      Schmidt (5-1) earned the win Thursday against Minnesota, allowing three hits and no walks across eight scoreless innings. He struck out eight.

      Advice: Schmidt hasn't allowed a run in 15.2 consecutive innings, dating back to his May 4 start against Detroit. The 28-year-old was utterly dominant Thursday, setting a season high in punchouts while tying his season low in hits allowed. Schmidt is well on his way to a career year -- owning a 2.49 ERA in 50.2 innings -- as a back-end starter in one of baseball's best rotations.       Orioles 2B/SS prospect Jackson Holliday went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and two RBI on Thursday for Triple-A Norfolk.

      Advice: Holliday has made some subtle tweaks to his batting stance since returning to the minors and is batting .240/.424/.420 with two homers and two steals in 14 contests since the start of May for Triple-A Norfolk. More impressively, he’s drawn 16 walks and only struck out 15 times during that span. The precocious 20-year-old top prospect is going to get another chance in the majors at some point, but it doesn’t sound like the Orioles are going to rush him back.     • Clarke Schmidt fires eight-inning gem vs. Twins
      Clarke Schmidt matched a career-high with eight strikeouts over eight scoreless innings on Thursday in a win over the Twins.

      Advice: Schmidt authored the strongest start of his career during Thursday afternoon’s matinee at Target Field, completing seven innings for the first time in his career, while also scattering three hits and needing just 103 pitches (69 strikes) to navigate eight nearly-flawless frames. He generated 16 swinging strikes, including 10 on his cutter alone, finishing with a robust 34 percent CSW. The 28-year-old righty has been a revelation this season for fantasy managers as a late-round steal in deeper mixed leagues.       Tyler O’Neill is not in the lineup on Thursday as the Red Sox take on the Rays.

      Advice: After getting off to a torrid start, O’Neill has struggled of late. Since his collision with Rafael Devers in the outfield on April 15th which landed O’Neill on the concussion IL, the outfielder has hit just .219 with three home runs and a 41.5 percent strikeout rate. He was hitting .313 with seven home runs and a 21 percent strikeout rate prior. While the early season sample size is small, it’s worth noting that concussion symptoms can linger, as we saw with Anthony Rizzo last year. Perhaps it’s just a cold stretch, but maybe O’Neill is still feeling some effects of the head injury.
