    • Running bases
Lewis (quadriceps) ran the bases Monday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Advice: After starting with some light running last week, Lewis was able to run the bases for the first time Monday as he continues to rehab from a right quad strain. It's expected that Lewis will need a rehab assignment before returning, which could push his timetable for return into early June. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:42 pm

    • Royce Lewis (quad) making progress in recovery
Royce Lewis (quad) progressed to running the bases on Monday.

Advice: Lewis will be re-evaluated later this week to determine where he’s at in his rehabilitation process from a severe right quad strain that he suffered back on Opening Day. The 24-year-old is getting close to starting a minor league rehab assignment and could return at some point next month, barring any setbacks. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:35 pm

    • Heads to bench Sunday
Gorman is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Gorman has homered in back-to-back games, but the strikeouts are piling up. He's struck out 10 times in his last 16 at-bats, bringing his K-rate to 35 percent through 157 plate appearances this season. Brendan Donovan will start at second base Sunday as Alec Burleson takes over in left field and Matt Carpenter starts at DH. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:34 am

    • Homers in back-to-back games
Gorman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an RBI single and two total runs scored in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Gorman has homered in each of the last two games, and he's gone deep three times with three multi-hit efforts over his last seven contests. The second baseman is up to a .201/.293/.396 slash line through 157 plate appearances after hitting as low as .172 and slugging as little as .319 on May 9. He's added seven homers, 18 RBI, 16 runs scored, six doubles and no stolen bases over 40 games while seeing a majority of the playing time at the keystone this year. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:35 pm

    • Nolan Gorman homers in win over Red Sox
Nolan Gorman went 2-for4 with a homer and two RBI in a 7-2 win for the Cardinals over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Gorman smashed a solo homer in the second inning of Kutter Crawford — the only run Crawford allowed in the outing — and he drove in his second run with a single in the eighth inning to give him 18 RBI and doubled the St. Louis lead to 4-2. Gorman now has seven homers on the season, but even with the two hits and two RBI, his .201/.293/.396 slash qualifies as a disappointment thus far. Rotoworld Saturday, 7:09 pm

    • Idle versus lefty
Busch isn't in the Cubs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: With lefty Bailey Falter set to start on the mound for the Bucs, the left-handed bat of Busch will remain in Chicago's dugout. His absence will give Patrick Wisdom an opportunity to start at first while batting leadoff. Rotowire.com Saturday, 10:00 am

    • Swats homer in win
Gorman went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 10-6 win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Gorman's bat is coming around -- he's 6-for-19 (.316) with two homers and four RBI over his last six games. The second baseman took Boston starter Brayan Bello deep in the second inning of this contest. Gorman is up to a .193/.288/.370 slash line with six homers, 16 RBI, 14 runs scored, no stolen bases and six doubles through 153 plate appearances, and he's not helping his cause to remain in an everyday role with a 34.6 percent strikeout rate. While the threat isn't immediate, Gorman could be one of the players to see a reduced role once Tommy Edman (wrist) is able to return to action. Rotowire.com Friday, 9:43 pm

    • Day off Wednesday
Gorman isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Gorman will get a day to clear his head after striking out four times during Tuesday's win over the Halos. Brendan Donovan will fill in at the keystone Wednesday while Alec Burleson, Mike Siani and Lars Nootbaar start across the outfield. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 3:44 pm

    • Cleared for running
Lewis (quadricep) did some light running on the field Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Twins head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta described the upcoming week as a big one for Lewis when it comes to his recovery from the right quad strain that has kept him out since he suffered the injury Opening Day. Lewis will gradually ramp up the intensity of his running this week while incorporating more change-of-direction work into his training regimen. Depending on how Lewis responds to the running work, he could be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment next weekend. In addition to running, Lewis has been fielding grounders and hitting.
