      Advice: After being activated from the injured list Tuesday, Hayes had to wait a day to make his return to the lineup due to a rainout creating a doubleheader Wednesday. He started at third base and played all eight innings in the field in the Pirates' 8-0 loss in the first game of the day, going 0-for-2 with a walk. Hayes should settle back into an everyday role at the hot corner, but the Pirates won't have him play two full games in his first day back in the lineup.       Advice: It sounded like this was still at least a few days away, but the Reds are bringing Friedl back from a thumb fracture without the benefit of a rehab assignment. He’ll resume playing center field most of the time, and Jacob Hurtubise will probably head to the bench for the most part, though he might have a chance to start over Will Benson if he gets hot.       Advice: Friedl missed just two and a half weeks with a fractured left thumb and will make his return without going on a rehab assignment beforehand. The outfielder has been limited to just six games this season due to the thumb injury as well as the fractured wrist.       Iglesias struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 13th save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Nationals.

      Advice: The right-hander topped out at 97.5 mph and fired nine of 11 pitches for strikes as he breezed through the top of Washington's order. Iglesias appears to be finding his peak form, reeling off four straight scoreless appearances with a 5:0 K:BB. On the season, he sports a 2.21 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB through 20.1 innings.       Advice: Gausman was sharp Tuesday, yielding one run and fewer than five hits for a second straight start to tally his fourth win in his last six outings. However, he snapped a streak of four consecutive outings with six or more Ks and yielded three extra-base hits. Gausman has allowed one or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts but owns a 4.14 ERA on the year. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against Baltimore on Monday.
