    • Justin Steele kicking off second half on Friday
Justin Steele will start Friday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks.

Advice: No surprise here as the Cubs will hand the ball to their ace following a stellar first half where he posted a pristine 2.71 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 81/18 K/BB ratio across 86 1/3 innings (14 starts). The 29-year-old lefty would’ve been an obvious All-Star Game selection had he not missed a handful of starts due to an early-season hamstring injury. It’ll be Kyle Hendricks and Shota Imanaga, fresh off a scoreless appearance earlier this week in the Midsummer Classic, taking the ball over the weekend against the Diamondbacks. • Plays full nine on defense
Ruiz (wrist) started in center field and played nine innings in the ACL Athletics' extra-inning loss to the ACL Brewers on Tuesday, going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts.

Advice: While Ruiz's rehab-assignment hot streak at the plate was ironically snapped against a much lower caliber of competition than he normally faces, but the fact the outfielder played a full game's worth of innings on defense is the main takeaway. After logging 21 plate appearances over five games down on the farm, Ruiz may be deemed ready for activation ahead of the Athletics' game of the second half Friday against the Angels. • Esteury Ruiz (wrist) starts rehab assignment
Esteury Ruiz (wrist) went 0-for-4 on Tuesday in a minor league rehab game in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Advice: Ruiz has been out since late May recovering from a left wrist strain. The 25-year-old speedster has underwhelmed this season to an alarming degree on the heels of last year’s 67-steal rookie season. There isn’t much of a roadblock to at-bats at the highest level, but the Athletics have been hesitant to give him an extended opportunity this season, even when he’s been healthy. • Multi-hit effort in rehab game
Ruiz (wrist) played seven innings in left field Sunday in a rehab game with Single-A Stockton, going 2-for-3 with an RBI sacrifice fly.

Advice: Ruiz had gotten Saturday off after playing a full game at DH on Friday, but he encouragingly put in another robust workload on defense Sunday. Ruiz's mastery over Single-A arms continued as well, as he hit safely for the fourth time in as many rehab games. It's certainly possible Ruiz may be deemed ready for activation coming out of the All-Star break despite not having made any appearances at a higher-level affiliate during his assignment. • Late addition to All-Star Game
Finnegan was named to the National League All-Star team Monday.

Advice: Finnegan wasn't initially named an All-Star, but he'll be available to make his first appearance in the Midsummer Classic after being added as a replacement on the roster for Ryan Helsley. The 32-year-old has the third-most saves in baseball (25) and has recorded a 2.45 ERA across 40.1 innings. Rotowire.com Monday, 2:28 pm

    • Aiming to return by end of July
Trout (knee) has been swinging a bat as part of his rehab activities and is targeting a return from the 10-day injured list by the end of July, Jill Painter Lopez of the Associated Press reports.

Advice: Trout hasn't yet done work in the outfield, but he's anticipating being able to rejoin the Angels at the end of July. The future Hall of Famer hasn't played in a game since going 0-for-3 against Philadelphia on April 29. It's not yet clear if he'll play in any minor-league rehab games prior to rejoining the big club. Rotowire.com Monday, 1:58 pm

    • Earns save No. 22
Iglesias picked up the save in Sunday's 6-3 win over the Padres, tossing a clean ninth inning while striking out a batter in the process.

Advice: Iglesias was able to preserve a three-run lead for Atlanta and help the team go into the break on a positive note. He began with a strikeout against Kyle Higashioka before retiring David Peralta and Jurickson Profar on a pair of lineouts. Iglesias hasn't allowed a run in each of his last eight appearances and last blew a save back on May 3. The 34-year-old isn't striking out as many batters as he has throughout his career but is still posting superb numbers. Iglesias is now up to 22 saves and will take a 2.02 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB (35.2 innings) into the second half of the season. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:53 am
    • On base four times Sunday
Lindor went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Advice: The veteran shortstop heads into the All-Star break on a tear. Lindor got on base 10 times in 15 plate appearances during the three-game series against Colorado, and over his last 25 contests he's slashing .314/.397/.549 with nine doubles, five homers, seven steals, 18 RBI and 20 runs. • Collects rare two-inning save
Jansen tossed two innings Sunday, allowing one run on two hits and a walk to pick up the save against the Royals. He struck out three.

Advice: Jansen struck out the side in the eighth, then battled through the ninth, allowing a run but inducing a game-ending groundout with the tying run on second. While he had accomplished the feat previously in the postseason, it was the first regular-season two-inning save of Jansen's 15-year career. The 36-year-old reliever was not named to the American League All-Star roster, but he has put together another All-Star-caliber campaign with 19 saves, a 2.16 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 38 strikeouts over 33.1 innings.
