    • Ryan Helsley serves up homer, still records save
Ryan Helsley served up a solo homer to Ian Happ in the ninth inning on Sunday night, but still managed to escape with the lead intact and earn his 17th save of the season.

Advice: After giving up a leadoff blast to Happ that trimmed the Cardinals’ lead to one run, he then retired Dansby Swanson on a line drive to third base and struck out Michael Busch. He then allowed a pair of two-out singles to Nick Madrigal and Mike Tauchman before getting Seiya Suzuki on a line drive to center to end it. The Cardinals’ stopper has now converted 17 of his first 18 save chances on the season while producing a stellar 2.25 ERA. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:20 pm

    • Escapes with save
Helsley allowed two runs on four hits in one inning but earned the save in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Cubs. He did not walk or strike out a batter.

Advice: Helsley had gone 11 innings without allowing a run, and he hadn't given up multiple hits in an appearance since April 27. Luckily for the Cardinals, they gave him a three-run lead to protect, and that was just enough leeway in this one. Helsley is 16-for-17 in save chances this season with a 1.96 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB over 23 innings. His lone blown save came in his season debut, and he remains one of the top closers in baseball despite pitching for a mediocre team. Rotowire.com Saturday, 8:01 pm

    • Ryan Helsley closes out Cubs on Saturday night
Ryan Helsley walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Saturday against the Cubs, but managed to escape with the lead intact to earn his 16th save of the season.

Advice: Helsley took over with a three-run lead to protect, but immediately made things interesting by allowing singles to Dansby Swanson and Nick Madrigal to start the inning. After retiring Ian Happ, he allowed a run-scoring single to Mike Tauchman and a two-out RBI single to Cody Bellinger that made it a one-run game. He battled back though, getting Christopher Morel to bounce into a fielder’s choice to end it. Helsley has now made good on 16 of his first 17 save chances on the season while posting a 1.96 ERA. • Stumbles against Brewers
Crawford (2-3) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings as the Red Sox fell 7-2 to the Brewers. He struck out four.

Advice: It was the worst performance of the season for the right-hander, who failed to complete five innings for the first time since April 5 and got tagged for more than three earned runs for just the second time in 11 starts. Crawford will take a 2.89 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 61:20 K:BB through 62.1 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next week in Baltimore. Rotowire.com Saturday, 6:10 am

    • José Alvarado gives up game-tying homer to Rockies
José Alvarado took a blown save after giving up a game-tying homer to Jacob Stallings in the ninth inning Friday against the Rockies.

Advice: Alvarado has a couple of losses, but this is his first blown save to go along with nine saves and four holds. He’s still the clear favorite for saves in Philadelphia. Incredibly, he’s walked just two batters in his last 18 appearances, spanning 16 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 11:49 pm

    • Kutter Crawford surrenders six runs in defeat
Kutter Crawford lasted only 4 1/3 innings and gave up six runs Friday in a loss to the Brewers.

Advice: Crawford allowed only five hard-hit balls on the night, but he couldn’t stop the bleeding in either the third or the fifth, giving up three runs each inning. After opening up with a 0.66 ERA in his first five starts, Crawford has come in at 4.64 in his last six outings. He’ll pitch in Baltimore next time out, making him a mediocre play in mixed leagues. • Suffers first blown save
Alvarado blew the save Friday against the Rockies. He allowed one run on two hits and no walks over one inning while striking out two.

Advice: Alvarado looked to be cruising to another save after striking out Jordan Beck and Hunter Goodman to start the bottom of the ninth inning. However, pinch hitter Jacob Stallings and his career .340 slugging percentage had different plans, crushing a 427-foot solo home run to hand Alvarado his first blown save in 2024. The flame-throwing lefty sports a 3.63 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 23:8 K:BB in 22.1 innings this season. Rotowire.com Friday, 8:45 pm

    • Lasts three frames in no-decision
Spence did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Rockies on Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over three innings while striking out four.

Advice: Spence got knocked around early, surrendering a leadoff single to Charlie Blackmon to open the contest, followed by a two-run shot off the bat of Elias Diaz three batters later. Those would be the only two runs allowed by the right-hander on the night, though he continued to struggle with his command, needing 27 pitches to get through the third inning alone. Spence has been unable to get through five innings in either of his first two starts and also matched his season high with three walks Wednesday. Rotowire.com Thursday, 4:15 am

    • Mitch Spence goes three innings against Rockies
Mitch Spence allowed two runs with four strikeouts over three innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Wednesday.

Advice: Spence served up a two-run homer to Elias Díaz in the first inning. He then loaded the bases before he was able to escape the inning. Spence loaded the bases once again in the third, but was able to keep the Rockies off the board. He was done after three innings at 70 pitches, scattering five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 4.09 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 30/11 K/BB ratio across 33 innings. He’s in line for a start against the Rays in Tampa Bay on Tuesday. Rotoworld Wednesday, 9:51 pm
