    • Hit hard early
Spence (5-5) took the loss Sunday against Baltimore, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out five.

Advice: All four runs charged to Spence came in the first inning, when he allowed a solo home run to Anthony Santander and a three-run home run to Heston Kjerstad. Spence was able to settle in afterward, and would have kept the Orioles off the scoreboard if it weren't for a dropped fly ball with two outs in the third inning that allowed a run to score. Since the start of June, Spence owns a 5.01 ERA and a 32:6 K:BB across 41.1 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Phillies in Philadelphia next weekend. Rotowire.com Today, 12:47 am

    • Kutter Crawford goes seven scoreless to beat Yanks
Kutter Crawford delivered a brilliant performance in Sunday night’s victory over the Yankees, scattering four hits over seven scoreless innings of work.

Advice: The 28-year-old right-hander punched out four batters on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He needed just 68 pitches (54 strikes) to get through his seven innings. Crawford has never pitched into the eighth inning in his big-league career though, and the Red Sox trusted their bullpen to get the final six outs. Crawford generated nine whiffs on the night while posting an elite CSW of 38 percent. He’ll attempt to finish the first half strong as he carries a stellar 3.24 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 106/28 K/BB ratio (105 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Royals. • Mitch Spence strikes out five versus Orioles
Mitch Spence gave up five runs — four earned — in six innings Sunday in a loss to the Orioles.

Advice: Two homers did in Spence today, but he again had a nice K/BB of 5/1, putting him at 23/4 in 22 2/3 innings over his last four starts. He’s unlikely to be a factor in mixed leagues at any point in the second half, but he looks like a legitimate starter for the A’s going forward, which is a nice get from the Rule 5 draft. • Christian Yelich homers, plates three to lead Crew
Christian Yelich went 3-for-4 with a homer, double, three runs scored and three RBI on Sunday afternoon, leading the Brewers to a 9-2 rout of the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Advice: Yelich opened the scoring in Sunday’s contest with a 418-foot (107.2 mph EV) two-run blast off of rookie left-hander Justin Wrobleski in the fourth inning. He then singled and scored on a two-run knock by Blake Perkins in the eighth inning. Yelich also tacked on an RBI double in the ninth and scored on a double by Garrett Mitchell. He’s having an outstanding season in the middle of the Brewers’ lineup, slashing .329/.407/.533 with 11 homers, 41 RBI and 19 stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:12 pm
    • Not starting Sunday
Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Padres.

Advice: Gurriel will hit the bench after making 12 straight starts, and he posted a .320/.333/.600 slash line with seven extra-base hits and 11 RBI during that span. Jake McCarthy will receive a start in left field Sunday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:09 pm
    • Receiving breather Sunday
Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Advice: Contreras started the past 12 games after missing one contest due to a head injury, and he'll take a seat Sunday after he posted a .319/.396/.468 slash line during that stretch. It's just his fourth game out of the lineup this season. Eric Haase will step in behind the plate to catch for veteran lefty Dallas Keuchel. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:28 pm
    • Timely knock in big win
Gelof went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in a win over the Orioles on Saturday.

Advice: Gelof contributed to the Athletics' astounding seven-run second inning, lacing a two-bagger to left field that plated Brent Rooker and Shea Langeliers. The 24-year-old is enduring a tougher-than-expected second big-league season after setting high expectations a rookie in 2023, but he's showing a bit of life at the plate of late with a .257 average and .794 OPS across 41 plate appearances in his last 10 games. Nevertheless, his Achilles heel continues to be consistent contact -- even during that encouraging stretch, Gelof has struck out at a bloated 39.0 percent clip. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:46 am

    • Extends hitting streak with homer
Gurriel went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's win over the Padres.

Advice: Gurriel jumped on a knuckleball from Matt Waldron to lead off the fourth inning and crushed it into the stands in left-center field to give Arizona a one-run lead. It was the outfielder's third home run in his last eight games, and he's now hit safely in five straight contests to open the month of July. Gurriel has also tallied multiple hits in 10 of his last 16 games, batting .358 (24-for-67) over that stretch with four homers, 12 RBI and 10 runs scored. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:43 am
    • Fans six in quality start
Waldron did not factor into the decision in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks over six innings while striking out six.

Advice: Waldron allowed Arizona's first run in the second after surrendering a leadoff single to open the frame, along with two walks and a second single, the latter three all coming with two outs. He would then surrender a leadoff homer to Lourdes Gurriel in the fourth and was later charged with a third run after being relieved by Yuki Matsui in the seventh. Waldron has now logged quality starts in seven of his last eight outings, though he's allowed multiple runs in three straight. The right-hander has also issued multiple free passes in five of his last six starts. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:33 am
