      Advice: Scott was called up from Triple-A on Wednesday to log his first big-league start since May 30, but he didn't make much of an impression. The rookie right-hander tied a season-worst mark by allowing four runs, and he struck out a season-low two batters. It was an especially disappointing outcome for Scott after he retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced -- six of the eight baserunners he allowed came over his final 1.2 frames, and he departed after giving up a three-run homer to Luis Garcia with two outs in the sixth. Despite the overall poor result, there's a good chance Scott will get at least another turn through the rotation with New York not having an off day until the All-Star break and with Tylor Megill recently demoted to the minors.       Advice: This home run was a shot, traveling an estimated 435 feet and hit 106.0 MPH. Despite not getting another hit, Vientos scorched two other balls and remained locked in at the plate.     • Christian Scott falls just short of quality start
      Christian Scott allowed four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday against the Nationals in his return to the big leagues. He struck out two and walked two in a no-decision.

      Advice: Scott’s night was ruined by a three-run home run from Luis García Jr. off a hanging sweeper with two outs in the sixth inning. Otherwise, this was a positive return to the show from the young right-hander. The Nationals stuffed their lineup with seven lefties to combat Scott’s fastball-sweeper combo and he responded by throwing a season-high 18% splitters to combat them. It was nice to see that adjustment, improved fastball command, and the Mets’ willingness to let him get up to 99 pitches.       James Wood will start in left field and bat third for the Nationals on Wednesday night against the Mets.

      Advice: It only took two games for the 21-year-old phenom to slide into a premium spot in the Nationals’ lineup, and as long as he hits he should remain there indefinitely. The premium spot in the order should lead to ample counting stats to go along with his dazzling blend of power and speed — making him a must-add in all formats for the remainder of the season.       Springer is batting leadoff as the designated hitter for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

      Advice: Springer was moved out of his customary leadoff spot in early May and had a .188/.278/.281 slash line through 71 games this season, but his bat has come alive over the past week. The veteran outfielder is in the midst of a seven-game hit streak and has gone 12-for-24 with two doubles, four homers, 12 RBI and five runs during that span. It remains to be seen if he can translate the hot stretch into a sustained turnaround, but it was apparently enough for manager John Schneider to give Springer another opportunity atop the lineup.       Yamamoto is no longer feeling pain in his right shoulder, but he hasn't yet started throwing, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: Yamamoto was diagnosed with a right rotator cuff strain two days after being able to complete only two innings in his most recent start June 15. While the rookie right-hander is now pain-free, he isn't yet throwing, and manager Dave Roberts indicated that there's no clear timeframe for when the hurler will pick up a ball again.       RHP Shane Baz will join the Rays’ rotation and start Friday’s game against the Rangers, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.

      Advice: Baz will take the rotation spot that opened up when the Rays dealt Aaron Civale to the Brewers.
