Jared Jones gives up seven runs in rough outing
Jared Jones surrendered seven runs — five earned — in 4 1/3 innings in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Tigers.
Advice: He struck out just two. Jones did not have his best stuff after having his start pushed back a day; his 96.0 mph average fastball velocity was down 1.3 mph from his season mark. He did have some bad luck in the fifth; Wenceel Pérez hit what should have been an inning-ending double play ball to second, but Nick Gonzales went for the tag on Jake Rogers and had the ball jarred loose, resulting in no outs. The next batter hit a three-run homer, and after a subsequent double, Jones was lifted.
