  • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A. • Not in Friday's lineup
Massey is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Advice: Massey was hit by a pitch in Thursday's game, so it's possible he's a bit sore. Salvador Perez will be the Royals' designated hitter while Freddy Fermin does the catching. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:59 pm

  • Idle Friday
Gordon is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Philadelphia.

Advice: Gordon will get a breather Friday after making six straight starts, collecting a hit in each contest. Bryan De La Cruz will play left field and lead off against the Phillies. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:28 pm

  • Jose Iglesias remains on bench Friday
Jose Iglesias is out of the Mets lineup in favor of Jeff McNeil for a fifth straight game Friday.

Advice: McNeil had a sac fly in five plate appearances during last night’s 12-2 rout, buying him at least another week of starts. Iglesias is hitting .400/.447/.457 in 38 plate appearances, the last of which came six days ago. He probably will get a start Saturday with the Mets due to face a lefty. De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with an RBI triple, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over St. Louis.

Advice: The star shortstop kicked things off for Cincinnati with an RBI triple in the first inning to score Jonathan India. De la Cruz would then add another two singles in the contest, giving him his fifth three-hit performance this month and third in his last six games. Over that latter stretch he's batting .464 (13-for-28) with two homers, four RBI and seven runs scored. He also swiped his league-leading 38th bag Thursday after failing to record a steal over his previous eight games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:22 am

  • Ketel Marte doubles and homers in loss to Twins
Ketel Marte homered and doubled in a blowout loss Thursday to the Twins.

Advice: Marte now has 17 homers on the season to go with 17 doubles. It’s been a fantastic season for the 30-year-old even in a shaky — to put it nicely — season for the Diamondbacks with those numbers along with 47 RBI and an .863 OPS. Rotoworld Thursday, 4:45 pm
