  • Jackson Merrill homers in nine-run fifth inning
    Jackson Merrill hit a three-run homer to camp a nine-run fifth as the Padres bested the Red Sox 9-2 on Friday.

    Advice: The Padres were held scoreless until the fifth, when the first nine batters totaled nine runs on eight hits and one walk against Nick Pivetta and Greg Weissert. Merrill concluded the rally with the second homer of the inning. After that, the Padres put their bats back to bed, coming up with just one hit off Chase Anderson in the final four innings. Merrill’s homer was his 11th in 82 games. His current .282/.318/.439 line is a near match for the .277/.326/.444 he came in at least year, only that was compiled in high-A and Double-A.     Jose Iglesias is out of the Mets lineup in favor of Jeff McNeil for a fifth straight game Friday.

    Advice: McNeil had a sac fly in five plate appearances during last night’s 12-2 rout, buying him at least another week of starts. Iglesias is hitting .400/.447/.457 in 38 plate appearances, the last of which came six days ago. He probably will get a start Saturday with the Mets due to face a lefty.     De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with an RBI triple, a run scored and a stolen base in Thursday's win over St. Louis.

    Advice: The star shortstop kicked things off for Cincinnati with an RBI triple in the first inning to score Jonathan India. De la Cruz would then add another two singles in the contest, giving him his fifth three-hit performance this month and third in his last six games. Over that latter stretch he's batting .464 (13-for-28) with two homers, four RBI and seven runs scored.   • India stays red hot with two-hit game Thursday
    Jonathan India went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and an RBI against the Cardinals on Thursday.



    Advice: India started the game with a single and scored on Elly De La Cruz’s RBI triple. In the second inning, he had an RBI double to give the Reds a 2-0 lead. India is now on a nine-game hitting streak and he’s 17-for-33 (.515) in that stretch. In June, he’s 30-for-80 (.375) with 18 runs scored and 14 RBI in 24 games. India’s average is up to .272 on the season with a .771 OPS and 32 RBI.

    Elly De La Cruz went 3-for-5 with a run scored, a triple, an RBI and a stolen base against the Cardinals on Thursday.



    Advice: De La Cruz’s RBI triple off Miles Mikolas in the first inning started the scoring for Cincinnati. He later stole his 38th base of the season. De La Cruz is hitting .255 with an .815 OPS and 36 RBI on the year.
