    • Jared Shuster set to start for White Sox Thursday
      Jared Shuster will start for the White Sox in Thursday’s series finale against the Guardians.

      Advice: Shuster has pitched exclusively out of the White Sox’ bullpen this season, posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 21/16 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings in 17 appearances. The 25-year-old hurler threw 64 pitches a couple of weeks ago against the Tigers, but otherwise hasn’t been stretched out, so he shouldn’t be expected to work more than a couple of innings on Thursday.     • David Festa gets obliterated in loss to Tigers
      David Festa was obliterated in Wednesday night’s loss to the Tigers, giving up seven runs on nine hits over his five frames.

      Advice: On the plus side for fantasy managers, Festa piled up six strikeouts on the night and didn’t walk a batter. His trouble in this one came from his inability to keep the ball in the yard as he served up a grand slam to Carson Kelly in the third inning, a solo shot to Wenceel Perez in the third and a two-run blast off the bat of Riley Greene in the fifth. Festa got 13 swings and misses on 81 pitches in the ballgame, registering a CSW of 32 percent. He’ll look to bounce back as he carries an uninspiring 10.80 ERA, 1.70 WHIP and an 8/1 K/BB ratio (10 innings) into Monday’s matchup against the White Sox in Chicago.

      Advice: Shuster has appeared in 17 games for the White Sox this season, posting a 3.15 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 34.1 innings, but Thursday will mark his first start of the season. The 25-year-old southpaw worked almost exclusively as a starter throughout his professional career before joining the White Sox in the offseason, so he should be able to pitch well into Thursday's game before Chicago turns to its bullpen. Shuster may be in line for just a spot start, as the White Sox could get Mike Clevinger (elbow/neck) back from the 15-day injured list next week to complete their rotation.       Manager Bud Black said Wednesday that Marquez (elbow) will make two more rehab starts with Double-A Hartford, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

      Advice: Marquez struggled heavily in his latest rehab outing at Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, allowing four earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning and throwing just 33 pitches. The 29-year-old righty was originally slated for just one additional start after Friday, but his abbreviated appearance will cause the Rockies to add another game to his rehab stint, ruling him out for a return to Colorado before the All-Star break.       Rockies’ manager Bud Black told reporters on Wednesday that German Marquez (elbow) is expected to make two more minor league rehab starts at Double-A Hartford.

      Advice: If all goes well with those two outings, it sounds like the 29-year-old right-hander could be ready to join the Rockies’ rotation immediately following the All-Star break. Marquez — who is recovering from Tommy John surgery — has posted a 9.58 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and a 14/4 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings through his first five rehab outings.       Ray (elbow) will make his next rehab start Thursday with Triple-A Sacramento, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.

      Advice: The left-hander covered 3.2 frames in his previous outing for Sacramento on Friday, and he'll continue building up his workload with the Triple-A affiliate. Ray made four rehab starts in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League and is now scheduled for a third appearance at Triple-A as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery.       Advice: Garcia threw one inning with the Astros' Florida Complex League affiliate this past Friday in his first rehab appearance. It's not clear what his targeted pitch count is for Thursday's outing, but Garcia will need a handful of rehab starts before becoming an option to join the Astros' rotation.
