    • George Kirby collects eight strikeouts vs. Astros
George Kirby allowed one run with eight strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Wednesday.

Advice: After giving up five runs in back-to-back outings, Kirby put together an excellent start against the Astros. Three hits in the fourth would bring the only run across to score for Houston. Kirby scattered three other hits and did not walk a batter, striking out eight over his six innings of work. The 26-year-old right-hander will take a 4.08 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 65/6 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings into a start against the Athletics in Oakland on Tuesday. • Luis Gil dominant again in win over Angels
Luis Gil held the Angels to one run with nine strikeouts over eight innings to earn the win on Wednesday.

Advice: Gil was outstanding once again, holding the Angels to one run over eight frames. He allowed just two hits and two walks, giving up a solo homer to Logan O’Hoppe in the seventh inning. He struck out nine. It was the fifth consecutive start for Gil with at least six innings and no more than one run allowed. The 25-year-old right-hander will take an excellent 1.99 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and a 79/31 K/BB ratio across 63 1/3 innings into a start against the Twins in New York on Tuesday. • Headed for MRI
Manoah will receive an MRI on his right elbow Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Manoah allowed one hit and struck out three batters in 1.2 innings Wednesday versus the White Sox before right elbow discomfort forced him out of the game early. The Blue Jays will wait for the results of his MRI before making any decisions, but there is a chance the 26-year-old righty will require a trip to the injured list. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:42 pm

    • Alek Manoah (elbow) set to undergo MRI on Thursday
Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider told reporters after Wednesday’s game that Alek Manoah will undergo an MRI exam on his injured right elbow on Thursday.

Advice: Manoah suffered the injury during the second inning of his start against the White Sox on Wednesday. The 26-year-old hurler has pitched well in his five starts for the Jays this season, compiling a 3.70 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 26/8 K/BB ratio across 24 1/3 innings. Expect the Jays to provide another update on his status — and perhaps a timeline for his return — after Thursday’s exam. All fantasy managers can do in the meantime is hope for the best. • Alek Manoah leaves start with right elbow issue
Alek Manoah was pulled from Wednesday’s start against the White Sox due to discomfort in his right elbow.

Advice: Ugh, that’s never what you want to hear. The 26-year-old hurler had been pitching well too — allowing just one hit and striking out three batters over his first 1 2/3 innings. He’ll head for additional tests and imaging to determine the severity of the issue, but you would have to think that a trip to the injured list is coming. It’s a tough break for someone who worked so hard to claw his way back to the Blue Jays’ rotation. Rotoworld Wednesday, 6:03 pm

    • Shohei Ohtani homers, plates three in blowout win
Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Wednesday in the Dodgers’ lopsided win over the Mets.

Advice: Ohtani extended Los Angeles’ early lead with a fifth-inning RBI single before clobbering a two-run homer -- his 14th round-tripper of the season -- off Mets reliever Jorge López in the eighth inning. The 29-year-old two-way superstar holds an astronomical 1.010 OPS in his Dodgers debut so far. That’ll work. Rotoworld Wednesday, 5:28 pm

    • Exits with trainer
Manoah was removed from Wednesday's game against the White Sox in the second inning due right elbow discomfort.

Advice: The severity of Manoah's injury isn't immediately apparent, but it was enough to warrant his removal after recording just five outs Wednesday. He is tentatively scheduled to pitch again Tuesday against the Orioles, though a clearer picture of his status for that game will come once the Jays are able to take a closer look at him. • Bullpen session scheduled
Eflin (back) will throw a bullpen session Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Eflin has played catch twice since Sunday and will now advance to more intense work. His progress has been steady since he was placed on the injured list retroactive to May 19, though a firm target for his return has yet to be set. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:05 am

    • Another victory
Gausman (4-3) picked up the win Tuesday against the White Sox, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: Gausman was sharp Tuesday, yielding one run and fewer than five hits for a second straight start to tally his fourth win in his last six outings. However, he snapped a streak of four consecutive outings with six or more Ks and yielded three extra-base hits. Gausman has allowed one or fewer earned runs in six of his last eight starts but owns a 4.14 ERA on the year. He's tentatively scheduled for a start against Baltimore on Monday.
