    • Zach Eflin starting on Friday against Yankees
Zach Eflin will start Friday’s pivotal series opener against the Yankees.

Advice: Eflin closed out the first half with strong outings against the Yankees and Nationals with a clunker against the Royals sandwiched in between. It’ll be Taj Bradley, Shane Baz and Zack Littell taking the ball for the rest of Tampa Bay’s four-game set against the Yankees before Ryan Pepiot draws the starting assignment for Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays. • Astros tab Hunter Brown to start second half
Hunter Brown will start Friday’s second-half series opener against the division-rival Mariners.

Advice: It appeared almost certain that Brown would be demoted after a brutal nine-start stretch to open the year, but he managed to turn things around to finish the first half with an impressive 2.36 ERA over his final 10 outings since May 22. It’ll be Framber Valdez and Ronel Blanco to round out the first series of the second half for Houston on the road at T-Mobile Park. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:46 pm
    • Shohei Ohtani goes deep in Midsummer Classic
Shohei Ohtani walloped a three-run homer during Tuesday’s MLB All-Star Game at Globe Life Field.

Advice: Ohtani connected on a center-cut heater from Red Sox starter Tanner Houck, launching a colossal 400-foot no-doubter to right field, putting the National League ahead in the early stages of the Midsummer Classic. The 30-year-old two-way superstar became the first Dodger to homer in the All-Star Game since Mike Piazza back in 1996. It’s yet another signature moment for his end-of-career highlight reel. • Ohtani says Derby absence a ‘load issue’
Shohei Ohtani said decided to sit out the Home Run Derby as a “load issue,” and that he could participate next year.

Advice: Ohtani has been taking less batting practice than usual this year as he makes his way back from Tommy John surgery. Taking a whole bunch of home run cuts tonight probably wasn’t in his best interests. Rotoworld Monday, 1:22 pm

    • Aaron Judge to bat cleanup for AL All-Stars
Aaron Judge will bat cleanup for the American League in Tuesday’s All-Star Game.

Advice: It seems Bruce Bochy disagrees with Aaron Boone in using Judge as a No. 2 hitter. He has Judge batting behind Steven Kwan, Gunnar Henderson and Juan Soto on Tuesday, so unless someone gets on base, we’ll miss out on a Paul Skenes-Judge matchup. Rounding out the lineup behind Judge will be Yordan Alvarez, José Ramírez, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Adley Rutschman and Marcus Semien. Rotoworld Monday, 1:12 pm

    • Swipes bag Sunday
Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Sunday's 2-0 loss to the Rays.

Advice: Gimenez went 18 games without a steal, though his chances were a bit limited since he got on base at a .275 clip in that span. The second baseman is still seeing most of the playing time at the keystone, though he's regularly batted sixth for nearly three weeks after often hitting second. Gimenez has 15 steals in 18 attempts, five home runs, 45 RBI, 43 runs scored and a .252/.304/.339 slash line through 89 contests this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 11:05 pm

    • Logs five-out save
Vodnik picked up the save Sunday against the Mets, allowing two hits and a walk over 1.2 scoreless innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Vodnik took over for Jalen Beeks midway through the eighth frame with one out and runners on second and third. Vodnik walked Francisco Lindor to load the bases and yielded an RBI fielder's choice to Brandon Nimmo before retiring Francisco Alvarez to close out the frame. Holding an 8-5 lead, Vodnik allowed a pair of singles but logged back-to-back strikeouts to close out his second save of 2024. Vodnik has cashed in on both of his save opportunities in July, and with the Rockies' current closing situation up in the air, he could see occasional save chances in the second half of 2024. • Notches four-out save
Scott allowed two walks over 1.1 scoreless innings and earned a save against the Reds on Sunday. He struck out two batters.

Advice: Scott faced a two-on, two-out situation in the ninth inning but struck out Edwin Rios to close out the 3-2 win. He's riding a 12.1-inning scoreless streak while converting six straight save chances. He's now 14 for 16 in save opportunities with a stellar 1.34 ERA through 39 appearances. • Wins third straight start
Taillon (7-4) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 5.2 innings to earn the win Sunday over the Cardinals.

Advice: Taillon came an out shy of his seventh straight quality start, but he was still able to capture his third win in a row. He's also given up a home run in six straight starts, as Alec Burleson tagged him for a solo shot in the sixth inning. Taillon is now at a 3.10 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 75:18 K:BB through 93 innings over 16 starts this season. Rotowire.com Sunday, 3:45 pm
