      Advice: All three runs scored against Cease came from the long ball. Corbin Carroll opened up the game with a solo home run and then Eugenio Suarez put the Diamondbacks ahead with a two-run blast in the seventh. Cease has now given up four homers over his last two starts and has given up 14 in 14 starts dating back to April 27. He has a 5.11 ERA over that span, though that also comes with an elite 11.7 K/9. The outfielder has led off in each of his last four starts, batting 5-for-14 with five runs scored, four walks and three strikeouts.       Advice: Kimbrel has now fired seven consecutive scoreless frames, going 7-for-7 in save chances during that stretch to bring his season total up to 23 saves. The 36-year-old fell to a 4.73 ERA after his first 16 appearances of 2024, but has been dominant since, recording a 0.43 ERA with 31 strikeouts across 21.0 innings.       Advice: Singer picked up his first win since May 19 and was able to minimize the impacts of Coors Field, allowing no extra-base hits in seven innings of work. Although Singer's efforts haven't resulted in wins, he's allowed less than three earned runs in seven of his last nine starts and has logged a quality start in three of his last five outings. Through 101.1 innings, Singer owns a 2.93 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He's in line for one more start before the All-Star break, which is scheduled to come during a weekend series in Boston.       Luis Gil was outstanding in a tough-luck loss against the Red Sox on Sunday night, racking up nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings of one-run baseball.

      Advice: The 26-year-old hurler scattered just four hits on the evening and didn’t walk a batter. He was engaged in a scoreless pitcher’s duel with Kutter Crawford until he served up an opposite-field solo homer to Rafael Devers in the seventh inning. Gil generated 15 swings and misses on 96 pitches in the ballgame — seven on his fastball and six on his slider — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing and finish the first half strong as he brings a 3.27 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 111/48 K/BB ratio (96 1/3 innings) into a tough matchup against the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday.       George Springer continued his hot hitting in Sunday’s extra-inning 5-4 victory over the Mariners, going 1-for-5 with a three-run homer.

      Advice: Springer turned the game on its head and started the comeback for the Jays, crushing a game-tying 400-foot (106.9 mph EV) three-run homer off of Ryne Stanek in the seventh inning that knotted things up at 4-4. That would be his only hit on the night but played a critical role in the come-from-behind victory. On the season, the 34-year-old outfielder is now slashing .221/.311/.361 with 10 homers and 31 RBI.       Dylan Cease yielded three runs in seven innings Sunday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

      Advice: The runs came on longballs from two players who had totaled two and six homers while serving as regulars all year long. He’s given up 14 homers in his last 14 starts, resulting in a 5.11 ERA even though he has an impressive 103/22 K/BB ratio in 79 1/3 innings over that span.       Craig Kimbrel recorded his 23rd save Sunday with a scoreless ninth against the A’s.

      Advice: Kimbrel has been denied a 10th career All-Star nod, at least for now. His 2.10 ERA seemed worthy, and it’s sort of a surprise that Clay Holmes was picked over him, something that would have been more justifiable a couple of weeks ago.     • Tosses sim game, rehab start next
      Kershaw (shoulder) threw a two-inning simulated game Sunday in Los Angeles, the Associated Press reports. "It was good to see him throw two innings. We accomplished what we wanted to," manager Dave Roberts said after Kershaw's workout.

      Advice: Kershaw has resided on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder last November, but he looks like he could be ready to make his 2024 debut for the Dodgers at some point within the next month. The 36-year-old had previously made a three-inning rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 19, but he was then shut down from throwing for the next week after experiencing lingering soreness in his shoulder. According to Roberts, Kershaw is in line to resume his rehab assignment next Saturday, likely with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kershaw is expected to cover three innings in that outing, and he's likely to require at least tow rehab starts beyond that one before the Dodgers bring him back from the 60-day IL.
