• Making season debut Saturday
Horwitz is starting at second base and batting second for Saturday's game against Oakland.

Advice: Horwitz was recalled by Toronto on Friday and is now set to make his first big-league appearance of 2024. He was slashing .335/.456/514 with four home runs, 38 RBI and 44 walks over 259 plate appearances in Triple-A before his promotion. Horwitz appeared in 15 games for the big club in 2023, slashing .256/.341/.385 with one home run and seven RBI over 44 plate appearances. The 26-year-old will face off against Athletics right-hander Luis Medina on Saturday. Rotowire.com Today, 10:23 am

  • Swats pair of doubles Friday
France went 2-for-3 with an RBI ground-rule double, another two-bagger, a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a run in a loss to the Royals on Friday.

Advice: France made up for missing out on the Mariners' first-inning fun by lacing a ground-rule double in the fourth to plate J.P. Crawford and extend Seattle's lead to 8-0 at the time. The 29-year-old has dialed in his stroke since the latter part of May and is swinging with more authority, generating a .304 average and .950 OPS over the last 14 contests with six extra-base hits (four doubles, two home runs) and 10 RBI during that span. • Pops homer, scores three times
Sheets went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, three runs scored and two walks in Friday's win over the Red Sox.

Advice: Sheets walked and scored in the fourth and eighth innings Friday, sandwiched around his solo shot in the sixth. He was recently stuck in a 33-game skid without a home run, but he's gone deep three times over his last 10 games. He bumped his season slash line up to .235/.341/.417 with 21 extra-base hits and 19 runs scored through 220 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:57 pm

  • Gavin Sheets homers, scores three runs in win
Gavin Sheets homered, walked twice and scored three runs Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Major league players had scored three runs in a game 159 times this season coming into the night, but this is the first time a White Sox player had done so. It’s also the first time Sheets has reached the mark in his 354 career games. It actually puts him at exactly 100 runs scored for his career. He’s been perfectly solid in hitting .235/.341/.417 for the White Sox. It’s just a mistake to ever ask him to play the outfield, something that will again become an issue once Eloy Jiménez gets healthy. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:30 pm

  • Blue Jays recall Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A
Blue Jays recalled 1B Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Horwitz was great at Buffalo, batting .335/.456/.514, but the Jays hadn’t called him up because it didn’t seem like he’d be able to coexist with fellow left-handed hitter Daniel Vogelbach. They’ll give it a try now, in part because they’ve grown at least somewhat comfortable with the idea of using Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at third base. Horwitz will likely prove to be one of the team’s better hitters, but as a platoon guy with no speed, his fantasy value should be limited to deep formats. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:39 pm

  • Recalled by Toronto
The Blue Jays recalled Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Advice: Since May 1, Horwitz is slashing .336/.435/.552 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 19 walks at Triple-A. He's played mostly at second base as of late, but the 26-year old has the versatility to also fill in at first base or the corner outfield. Toronto designated Cavan Biggio for assignment in a corresponding move. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:38 pm

  • Sitting again Friday
Davis is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.

Advice: The righty-hitting Davis will sit for a second straight game as the Blue Jays send right-hander Chris Bassitt to the mound Friday. Over his last 15 games, Davis has slashed .250/.298/.386 with two home runs and three RBI over 44 at-bats. Tyler Soderstrom will start at first base and bat seventh in the series opener. • Getting breather versus LHP
Carpenter isn't in the Cardinals' lineup for Friday's game against the Rockies, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The left-handed bat of Carpenter will be forced out of the lineup Friday as southpaw Austin Gomber prepares to toe the slab for Colorado. Jose Fermin will instead serve as St. Louis' designated hitter while batting seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:09 pm

  • Expected to join Toronto
Horwitz is expected to join the Blue Jays in Oakland on Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Advice: He will presumably be added to the roster, although it's unclear what the corresponding transaction will be. Horwitz has been on fire of late at Triple-A Buffalo, going 16-for-36 with a pair of home runs. He's also played mostly second base over that stretch, and that could be a path to playing time for him with the big club if the Jays would prefer to use Davis Schneider more in left field. Horwitz could also fill in at first base if Vladimir Guerrero sees more time across the diamond at third. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:10 am
