• Rejoins big-league club
The Guardians recalled Strzelecki from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The right-hander was sent to Columbus in mid-April and will rejoin the big club for Friday's series opener versus the Angels. Strzelecki has delivered scoreless frames in his two outings for Cleveland this season. Rotowire.com 7 minutes ago
  • Could piggyback another starter
The Phillies are considering piggybacking Turnbull with another starter, Corey Seidman of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Advice: Turnbull's stint in the Phillies' rotation was supposed to be temporary while Taijuan Walker (shoulder) worked his way back. However, Turnbull has pitched so well -- posting a 1.67 ERA and 36:10 K:BB in 32.1 innings -- that the club is considering ways to keep him in its rotation even with Walker back in the fold. A six-man rotation hasn't been ruled out, although manager Rob Thomson has indicated it's unlikely. More likely, it seems, is that Turnbull and another starter -- either Walker or Cristopher Sanchez -- are used in tandem, with the decision on who would start and who would be in long relief that day depending on the opposition. Turnbull could still eventually shift to the bullpen -- he hasn't thrown more than 56.2 innings in a season since 2019 -- but it doesn't sound like that's going to happen yet. Thomson has indicated that he could make an announcement regarding his rotation plans as soon as Friday. Rotowire.com 13 minutes ago
  • Sitting against lefty
Biggio is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Nationals.

Advice: Biggio is sitting out for a second consecutive contest, moving to the bench with southpaw Patrick Corbin on the mound for Washington. Instead, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will slide to second base while Ernie Clement mans the hot corner. Rotowire.com 19 minutes ago

  • DFA'd by Guardians
Beede was designated for assignment on Friday, Chris Assenheimer of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.

Advice: Beede has allowed 13 runs across eight innings in his last eight appearances, capped off by a five-run outing against the Astros on Thursday over one-third of an inning. His ERA has ballooned to 8.36 during that stretch after opening up the season with six scoreless innings. Righty Peter Strzelecki was recalled in a corresponding move. • Sitting again
Velazquez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

Advice: Velazquez has been less and less of an everyday option for the Royals as the team continues to trot out lineups with Salvador Perez as first, Vinnie Pasquantino at DH and Freddy Fermin behind the dish. Velazquez hasn't done much to warrant an everyday role after starting the season red-hot, with just one hit in his last 27 at-bats. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago
  • Returns from injured list
The Pirates activated Grandal (foot) from the 10-day injured list Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Grandal got a late start to the season while battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot, but he participated in nine rehab games with Triple-A Indianapolis and is feeling well enough to join the active roster. The veteran catcher is likely to share starts behind the dish with Joey Bart. Rotowire.com 34 minutes ago

  • Optioned to Triple-A
The Pirates optioned Davis to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Advice: Davis entered the season as the Pirates' clear No. 1 catcher, but he slashed just .162/.280/.206 with a 34.9 percent strikeout rate and recently had fallen into a timeshare with Joey Bart. The Pirates will presumably keep Davis at catcher at Indianapolis, although it's possible he could be worked back into the mix in right field. Rotowire.com 37 minutes ago

  • Takes seat against LHP
Rortvedt is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Rortvedt will get the day off against lefty Jose Quintana, with freshly called-up Alex Jackson filling in behind the dish. During the Rays last series, Rortvedt went 1-for-9 (.111) with three strikeouts over three games. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago
  • Not in Friday's lineup
Buxton (knee) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports.

Advice: Buxton was sent for an MRI after being lifted from Wednesday's contest due to an issue with his right knee, so it's not a major surprise he's not starting Friday. It remains to be seen if the 30-year-old will require a trip to the injured list with the MRI results not yet known, but the injury is a concerning development given it's the same knee in which he's undergone multiple surgeries.
