    • Contract selected
The Brewers selected Kuhnel's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Kuhnel signed a minor-league deal with Milwaukee on June 11, and he'll now get another shot in the majors after giving up two earned runs while striking out eight batters and walking three through five innings with Nashville. Although the 29-year-old right-hander has found success in the minors this season across the three organizations he's been a part of, his 6.30 career ERA in the majors will likely limit him to low-leverage situations while with the Brewers. Carlos F. Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A to clear space for Kuhnel on the active roster, and Robert Gasser (elbow) was moved to the 60-day IL to free up a 40-man spot. • Phillies activate and option Yunior Marte to AAA
Phillies activated RHP Yunior Marte from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Marte will remain stationed in the minors as extra relief depth for Philadelphia after wrapping up an extended rehab assignment. The 29-year-old righty hit the injured list back in early May with right shoulder inflammation. Rotoworld Today, 2:17 pm
    • Luis Garcia (elbow) ready for rehab assignment
Luis Garcia (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start this weekend in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada divulged to reporters that Garcia is ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment as he continues to work his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old righty is going to need at least a couple weeks to build up before he’s ready to make his season debut. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until some point after next month’s All-Star break. Rotoworld Today, 2:15 pm

    • DFA'd by A's
The Athletics designated Brooks for assignment Tuesday.

Advice: Just two days after having his contract selected by the Athletics, Brooks will now be pushed off the 40-man roster for the second time this month. He allowed one earned run in five innings during Monday's loss to the Angels, though he still holds a 5.06 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in the majors. He'll most likely clear waivers and remain with the organization at Triple-A Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Jack O'Loughlin will come up from the minors to fill the open spot in Oakland's bullpen. • A’s designate journeyman Aaron Brooks for assignment
Athletics designated RHP Aaron Brooks for assignment.

Advice: Well, that was fast. Brooks latest stint with Oakland lasted roughly 48 hours as he allowed one run over five innings, throwing 65 pitches (41 strikes) on Monday in mop-up duty against the division-rival Angels. The 34-year-old righty figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the organization as emergency pitching depth. Rotoworld Today, 2:05 pm
    • Strong showing in live BP
Santos (lat) came away from his live batting practice session Saturday feeling very encouraged after deploying his sinker/slider combination, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Santos faced rookies Ryan Bliss and Tyler Locklear before Saturday's game in Miami and flummoxed both players consistently, not allowing either to put the ball in play over the quick 10-pitch session. Santos is slated to throw another bullpen session during the Mariners' current three-game series at Tropicana Field against the Rays, with another live batting practice a possibility in the days following. Assuming he continues free of setbacks through those sessions, Santos would then be set to begin a fairly lengthy rehab assignment. Rotowire.com Today, 9:48 am
    • Diagnosed with torn UCL
Sandoval told reporters Monday that he has a high-grade flexor tear and a torn UCL in his left elbow, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Advice: Sandoval was removed in the third inning of Friday's start against the Dodgers, and he was placed on the injured list Saturday. The injury is more severe than what was originally labelled a left elbow strain, and the 27-year-old southpaw will have to undergo surgery. Whether Sandoval undergoes an internal brace procedure or Tommy John has yet to be determined, but he will be out of action for at least a year. Prior to the injury, Sandoval was 2-8 over 16 starts with a 5.08 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 81:35 K:BB over 79.2 innings. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:14 pm

    • Patrick Sandoval needs season-ending UCL surgery
Patrick Sandoval was found to have a torn UCL and will undergo season-ending surgery.

Advice: If it’s a full Tommy John, Sandoval will miss most or all of 2025. If he has the internal brace operation, it’s more likely that he’ll be able to return for the second half of the year. In spite of improved peripherals, Sandoval was 2-8 with a 5.08 ERA for the Angels this season. He had a 3.85 FIP, a 4.13 xERA and a 4.13 SIERA, but a .341 BABIP was causing big problems. • Getting Tommy John surgery
Gasser is scheduled to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery Monday in Dallas, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Brewers previously disclosed Thursday that Gasser was headed for elbow surgery, but the team didn't immediately state what type of procedure the rookie left-hander was undergoing. However, after recently receiving a third opinion on the left flexor strain in his elbow from Dr. Keith Meister -- who will perform the operation Monday -- Gasser was recommended for Tommy John surgery rather than an internal brace procedure. Gasser will likely require anywhere from 12-to-18 months to make a full recovery from Tommy John surgery, meaning it's possible that he's not available to pitch at all during the 2025 season.
