    • A’s designate journeyman Aaron Brooks for assignment
Athletics designated RHP Aaron Brooks for assignment.

Advice: Well, that was fast. Brooks latest stint with Oakland lasted roughly 48 hours as he allowed one run over five innings, throwing 65 pitches (41 strikes) on Monday in mop-up duty against the division-rival Angels. The 34-year-old righty figures to pass through waivers unclaimed and remain with the organization as emergency pitching depth. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:05 pm
    • Orioles designate Nick Maton for assignment
Orioles designated INF Nick Maton for assignment.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the active roster for Heston Kjerstad but also opens up a spot on the 40-man roster as well. With the Orioles’ starting pitching struggling due to injuries, it’s possible the team could be looking to add another pitcher to the 40-man roster. It should be noted that the team’s 17th-ranked prospect is RHP Chayce McDermott and he is not on the 40-man roster. This move could open up a spot for the Orioles to promote him, should they choose to. Rotoworld Monday, 9:38 am

    • Dropped from 40-man roster
The Orioles designated Maton for assignment Monday.

Advice: Maton will be pushed off roster as the Orioles make room for outfielder/first baseman Heston Kjerstad, who was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. During his five-day stay with the Orioles, Maton saw action in just one game and didn't receive any plate appearances. Rotowire.com Monday, 9:12 am

    • Trent Grisham has two hits in loss
Trent Grisham went 2-for-3 with a run scored in a loss to the Braves on Sunday.

Advice: Grisham got the start in center field and came away with two singles on the day. He’s still hitting just .136/.275/.318 on the season; however, with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL, Grisham figures to get the majority of the starts against right-handed pitching with Aaron Judge sliding into the DH spot. Managers in deeper formats could roster Grisham in the short-term given his left-handed power in Yankee Stadium and the strong lineup around him. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:33 pm
    • Back with big club
Oakland selected Brooks' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday.

Advice: After designating Brooks for assignment June 2, the Athletics outrighted him to Las Vegas two days later upon clearing waivers. He's gone 1-1 in his two starts since returning to Triple-A, allowing five runs (three earned) on 11 hits and one walk while striking out eight over nine innings. Though he'll rejoin the big club ahead of Sunday's game against the Twins, Brooks will likely be relegated to a mop-up role out of the bullpen after turning in a 5.82 ERA in his four starts with Oakland earlier this season. • Struggling on rehab assignment
The Reds haven't yet committed to activating Marte (suspension) when he's first eligible to return to the big club June 27, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Reds manager David Bell professes not to be paying attention to Marte's numbers during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville as he continues the ramp-up process. Through the first 10 games of his assignment, Marte is hitting .156/.156/.178 with no walks and 13 strikeouts. If Marte can get back up to speed, the Reds could really use him both offensively and defensively at third base. Rotowire.com Sunday, 9:52 am
    • A’s bring up Aaron Brooks on Sunday from Triple-A
Athletics selected the contract of RHP Aaron Brooks from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Advice: Brooks gets the call to fortify Oakland’s bullpen ahead of Sunday’s game against the Twins with Dany Jiménez heading to the injured list. The 34-year-old journeyman righty made four starts earlier this season for the Athletics before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster. He’s likely to operate as a swingman or multi-inning low-leverage option. Rotoworld Sunday, 9:48 am
    • Starting Sunday
Grisham will start in center field and bat ninth in Sunday's series finale against Atlanta.

Advice: Grisham will enter the lineup as a replacement for Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring), who was placed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain. Aaron Judge will occupy Stanton's typical spot at designated hitter, while Grisham claims Judge's vacated spot in the outfield. Though the lefty-hitting Grisham is starting Sunday against Atlanta southpaw Max Fried, the Yankees could look to deploy Grisham primarily against right-handed pitching during Stanton's absence. While seeing sporadic playing time this season, Grisham enters Sunday's contest with a .113/.263/.306 slash line across 76 plate appearances. Rotowire.com Sunday, 7:40 am
    • Records final outs in win
Kopech allowed one hit and walked one while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning Saturday against the Tigers.

Advice: Kopech entered the game with a four-run lead and allowed consecutive batters to reach base with two outs. He managed to escape to turn in his second consecutive scoreless appearance, though he's still allowed eight earned runs across his last 8.1 frames. Those struggles have called Kopech's role as closer into question, though he did enter Saturday's game after John Brebbia. Rotowire.com Saturday, 11:10 pm
