    • Called up, working in bulk relief
The Tigers recalled Montero from Tripe-A Toledo on Wednesday.

Advice: Per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com, Montero is slated to serve as a bulk reliever for the Tigers in Wednesday's game against the Phillies, likely entering the game in the second or third inning once opening pitcher Tyler Holton exits the contest. Montero's lone prior big-league appearance came as a starter back on May 29, when he gave up four earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five across 4.1 innings in a loss to the Pirates. Montero owns a 5.03 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over 13 starts with Toledo this season. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 7:54 am
    • Edward Cabrera fans seven in Triple-A rehab start
Edward Cabrera (shoulder) struck out seven over four hitless innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Jacksonville.

Advice: Cabrera issued two walks and threw 37 of 60 pitches for strikes in his latest rehab outings. The 26-year-old righty, who has been out since early May recovering from a right shoulder impingement, appears to be getting closer to returning to Miami’s injury-depleted starting rotation. • Josiah Gray sharp on Tuesday in rehab outing
Josiah Gray (elbow) allowed one run over six innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Rochester.

Advice: Gray struck out four, didn’t hand out a free pass, and got up to around 90 pitches in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty should be ready to return to Washington’s starting rotation at some point later this week or early next week. He’s been on the shelf since early April due to a flexor strain in his right elbow. Rotoworld Tuesday, 5:31 pm

    • Faces live hitters
Kilian (shoulder) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Advice: Kilian began throwing bullpen sessions earlier this month and has now progressed to facing live hitters for the first time since landing on the injured list before Opening Day. He will likely require a lengthy rehab assignment before being reinstated from the IL, at which point it's more likely that he reports to Triple-A Iowa rather than the big-league club. • On cusp of rehab assignment
Manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Garcia (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League his weekend, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Advice: The 27-year-old threw a 32-pitch live bullpen session over the weekend and is just about ready for game action. Garcia will likely need to throw another bullpen session before being cleared for games, at which point he'll jump into a lengthy rehab assignment as he finishes up his recovery from May 2023 Tommy John surgery. • Luis Garcia (elbow) ready for rehab assignment
Luis Garcia (elbow) will make a minor league rehab start this weekend in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

Advice: Astros manager Joe Espada divulged to reporters that Garcia is ready to begin a minor league rehab assignment as he continues to work his way back from last year’s Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old righty is going to need at least a couple weeks to build up before he’s ready to make his season debut. Fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until some point after next month’s All-Star break. Rotoworld Tuesday, 2:15 pm

    • Set to pitch Wednesday
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Montero will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to pitch Wednesday against the Phillies, though it hasn't been decided whether the right-hander will start or work out of the bullpen as a primary pitcher, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The 23-year-old joined the Tigers ahead of Tuesday's contest and is set to make his second MLB appearance in Wednesday's series finale. Montero made his big-league debut in late May and surrendered four runs on five hits with five strikeouts across 4.1 innings. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 1:16 pm
    • Moved to 60-day IL
The Marlins transferred Sanchez (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Advice: The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Austin Kitchen, who was claimed off waivers. Sanchez had been hoping to be cleared to throw a bullpen session soon, but this move would seem to suggest that won't happen. The righty has been out since early June with right shoulder inflammation and now won't be eligible to return until the beginning of August at the earliest. Rotowire.com Tuesday, 12:48 pm

    • Marlins transfer RHP Sánchez (shoulder) to 60-day IL
Marlins transferred RHP Sixto Sánchez from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: Sánchez is now off the 40-man roster, and wouldn’t be able to return to the Miami staff until August 2. The right-hander gets removed to clear room for Austin Kitchen, with Kitchen coming to Miami off waivers from the Rockies. Rotoworld Tuesday, 12:42 pm
